Another disappointing Mexican kitchen. It is more of a texmex spot. They started us with chips and salsa. the salsa was more like tomato sauce with a lot of cumin. Started off with the queso fundido. It wasn't really melted cheese, it was more like chorizo and potatoes with a little cheese. A traditional queso funidido is melted cheese with pieces of chorizo. I ordered the Barbacoa for my main. It has been by far the worst Barbacoa I've had. Hardley any flavor/seasoning and worst of all it was burnt!!! I guess the cooks or chefs working that night just flipped the piece of meat over to the nice presentable side and put the burnt end on the bottom of the plate!!! But every bite had the burnt taste to it. Don't recommend this place at all if you are looking to have a nice Mexican meal.
Was really looking forward to eating here. Went to the location in person to order take out. I asked if I can substitute one taco of the carne asada plate since there is no option for a a la cart taco. Was told we dont do specials... (This bothered me more then the lack of service) my son was in hes stroller and happy to be out, he has a little condition and got excited, the host looked at him in such a weird way and it made me and my wife very uncomfortable. Not cool at all!! So we left.
Try the five taco plate with the free beer. I substituted the beer for an authentic Mexican Coke. The tacos were exquisite everything tasted like I was transported to Mexico. The tortillas were unbelievable and the rice and beans beyond what I expected.
The food is pretty good. The flautas de pollo were a little on the soggy side, but they had good flavor. The verdes cheese enchiladas were good, El Tamal was ok. I was expecting more of a tamal consistency but it's more of an extremely dense corn cake. I'm talking brick dense. Very unique presentation, not at all what I was expecting, but the sauce was good. The jamaica was very sweet and lacked the delicious bitterness of the hibiscus. The rice and beans that were served on the side had too much of something in them, perhaps epazote? They tasted like straight burning rubber. The service was extremely slow. Our server went on a break without telling us and his replacement never checked in. I had to get up to ask for a box, which took forever to receive. I then had to get up again to ask for the check, which took forever to get settled; I ended up going up to a random server to ask them to process our payment. It was like a sauna in there as well, so hot!! I would hate to be in there during the summer. Parking can be a hassle in this area, but the garage across the street is free. I wouldn't make a special trip for this place, but if I was in the area, I'd maybe give it a second chance.
