How I do I start. We were first tenants, our roof leaked water every time it rains (or snow melting) and they never fixed it; mandatory charge of $250 for moving out; our fridge stopped working and took them 3 weeks to send someone; had painters come to paint our apt DURING our move-out; charged us $500 for going over our move-out window a little bit (we were in a 3 bedroom duplex and they gave us 4 hours). Management makes the doormen do janitor jobs and fix everything in the building. This is the worst place I've ever lived in New York City. Most first tenants left after a year, we were the only few that were stupid enough to spend two years there. Oh, and they increased the rent by $300 for the people taking over our apt. We wish them the best luck :) P.S. the doormen of this building are the nicest people and management treat them horribly. We heard that one of our doormen was let go because he had a heart attack and asked for insurance.

This is seriously the worst place I have ever lived in. On first impression everything looks great and neat, but as soon as you step a little closer you see how cheap and poorly this place was really built. We were the first tenants in our apartment and were pretty baffled with the things that added up over time: 1) pretty much no heat insulation, the place gets incredibly warm in the summer and then freezing cold in the winter (the heaters are a joke and can not be controlled independently between the bedroom and the living which was about 3-4 times the space with the same heater installed. 2) our fridge broke down and it took a good 3-4 weeks until it has finally been fixed 3) we had a leak in the living room which never got fixed, the building just took a look and joked about having never seen a worse roof job. The building is way overpriced, and management does not care about anything but their money. Moving out was a joke, first we had to reserve an elevator for $250 and then got charged an additional $500 for not moving within their time window (the apartment was definitely vacated on time) Avoid Century Management at all cost, it is not worth the hassle!

This is truly a special place to live. To start, the conversion from steel factory to living space was done very well. The way the builder maintained facets unique to the original structure really gives apartments a nice warm feeling. From the time entry one feels welcome, as doormen and maintenance staff are not only courteous and helpful, but they are also quite diligent with staying on top of their duties. As for the apartments, again, very cozy. Some even have fireplaces! Building also has a beautiful library to work/study in and a nicely outfitted roof with grill and games court (I.e. bean bag toss, bocci). As for maintenance, management is quite responsive and makes every effort to fix problems as quickly as possible (or so Ive heard from fellow tenants, I havent had any problems). I highly recommend Lewis Steel Building to anyone looking to live in Brooklyn!

beautiful example of industrial to residential convert. honors the character of the neighborhood steel factory by incorporating the original steel and wood beams and exposed brick. love the use of subway tile in the interiors and the "good neighbor" lights in the tree pits on the block.
