The way they treat their customers is equivalent to the Jim crow South. Which by the way is extremely ironic with all the signage in their windows.
This food was absolutely amazing! The ham biscuits are a must have. Be prepared for your eyes to be teary and nose to run. The food here has some serious spice. I really like the atmosphere inside the restaurant. Their menu is always changing with new dishes! However I will not be coming back because they have a very ridiculous Covid Policy, while I was there I saw multiple people turned away because they didn't have a Covid Test or Vaccine Card on them.
Although Chef James Mark is now better known for Big King, those familiar with Providences dining scene will recall a time when the West Side space was home to North, a concept since moved to downtowns The Dean Hotel and the source of a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner enjoyed by three adults plus a child during a particularly rough year. A holiday tradition dating to 2012 for Chef Mark, but this year publically available for the first time, it was at a cost of $50 per person that eleven plates were portioned generously, a tweet reading Cant swing that price this year? I hear that. Dm me. Its all good particularly impressive from the man with skills sharpened across time with the Momofuku empire. A James Beard Foundation Award nominee, with flavors wide-ranging, it was from thorough re-heating instructions that Dinner was readied in twenty-minutes, Baked Littleneck Clams whetting the appetite for Turkey roasted around Forcemeat, Potatoes with some texture and complexly-flavored rectangles of Stufffing. An undeniable bargain considering Ingredient-quality and portions, Macaroni and Cheese referencing Providences most famous Restaurant indulgent to say the least, those in favor of lighter sides found their fix in simple Cabbage Salad as well as earthy Root Vegetables and nicely caramelized Crucifers. Not about to forget Biscuits, a North-staple supersized and served flaky with fiery Butter, it was after cooling the tongue with Cranberry Sauce that Dessert was served, the crustless Apple Pie perhaps better described as Crumble nonetheless lovely beneath slowly-melting Ice Cream.
We stopped in for lovely iced coffee, an excellent mocktail, and some AMAZING chocolate coconut ice cream on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Service was excellent! Not a ton of vegan brunch options, just as a warning, but it looks like there dinner menu does have good vegan stuff. The brunch menu right now is a diverse yummy-looking mix of congee, egg dishes, fun waffles, and ham and biscuits. The menu changes frequently so ask the hostess to see one if you're curious upon walking in. The ambience is so sweet here - great wall art, lots of light in the afternoon, adorable tables with bench chairs and lots of happy plants. Also, i am obsessed with the lobby of the hotel next door - that's where the restrooms are for north and then decor is so freaking cool every time I'm in there.
