Buyer beware. Grab your beautiful dress then get it altered somewhere else. Elegance by Roya (EBR) in Alexandria store claim to fame is that they specialize in plus sizes. After a dress coming in late, even with rush shipping (a month before my wedding), the alteration process was horrible. There is not a seamstress to be seen, just fitters who are trained to pin your dress for the actual seamstress. I had 4 rushed fittings and ended up just signing my dress out (EBR makes you sign) because of the heartache and hassle (the last appointment being a week before my wedding). Come to find out from a seamstress I found 4 days before my big day who graciously helped make my dress beautiful again, EBR butchered my dress after the first fitting by taking out all of the extra fabric at my shoulders and every fitting after tried to resolve a problem that could not be fixed (dress fell too high to my waist, back didnt fit the curve of my body). Take your dress elsewhere for alterations, their flat rate (almost 1/2 the cost of my dress) is an absolute joke and they should be ashamed of the damage to a beautiful gown.

Hi Jennifer, Thank you for admiring our selection of dresses at both of our locations. It's standard for all retailers to mark up gowns from the designers to cover the gown cost, shipping, and marketing. Also, Martina Liana doesn't allow any authorized retailers to price their gowns at a lower price than the suggested retail price given. You have asked us to sell a new order Martina Liana gown for way under the MSRP. If we would've done that, we would be under breach of contract with the designer. We are happy that you were able to purchase your gown elsewhere. Elegance By Roya wishes you nothing but happiness. EBR Team

To be fair, both stores are beautiful. They have a wonderful selection of dresses and I felt like the initial appointments were handled well given COVID restrictions. My disappointment came AFTER I found my dress. I decided on a dress that I tried on during my very first visit to the Tyson's location, and already had an appointment at the Alexandria scheduled for the next day (because I did not expect to find something so quickly). After deciding on the dress, I did a bit of research and found that the MSRP for my dress was significantly ($900) cheaper. I called several stores just to make sure that the pricing was not a one-off. After calling 6 other stores in and around the greater DC area, (and verifying that they were authorized dealers by the dress designer) I wanted to give my business to Elegance since that is where I tried on the dress. They would not honor the MSRP, which is fine, that is their prerogative. Fast forward a few weeks: I called to schedule an accessories appt. I called the Tyson Store, and the Alexandria Store as they both had veils and belts that I loved. When I called both stores to schedule, I felt the vibe change when they asked if I purchased my dress there. Once I said that I didn't they seemed standoffish. Tyson's did not have any availability but Alexandria did and they had my original Stylist (Paola) call me back to make an appointment. She scheduled me I received email confirmation with my appt time. I called the day before my appt to ask if I could adjust my appt 30 min. She said that was fine and I again received email confirmation with the updated time. I then received an email from Ashley saying they had to cancel my appointment because they were only doing accessory appointments for Brides who purchased their dress there. WOW. In this economic climate they are turning down business? I immediately called to speak to Ashley to find out what was going on. I spoke to someone who said she was a manager and she relayed that my appt was indeed cancelled because they are only doing accessories appointments with bridal fittings. My question is why was this not explained when I called both locations? Why was this not explained when I made my actual appointment? Why was this not explained when I called and spoke to Paola to switch my appointment time? If this were a COVID restriction, that could have been easily explained but the issues seemed to be that I did not buy the (overpriced) dress from them. I am severely disappointed that they pick and choose when to enact certain policies. I will gladly take my business elsewhere. Obviously I had a healthy budget to begin with (or else I would not have come to this store, the items are not cheap), but why would I want to pay more than I need to? Anyone planning a wedding would agree that it's smart to save where you can. Anyway, my suggestion is to do your research and spend your money where you feel valued. This is Washington DC, Bridal Boutiques come a dime a dozen. If you don't mind the drive, New Jersey and Delaware also have great Bridal Boutiques and do not charge sales tax. I understand this is a strange time we are currently in but communication is free. Planning a wedding is not easy during COVID. Finding a dress and accessories should be the fun part. I am really disappointed because I had my heart set on getting one of the belts that I tried on during my first two appointments. How can I purchase the belt, if I am being denied a 30 minute appointment? The sad part is that I have 2 cousins and a friend that are getting married within the next 18 months and not only was my business lost (even if it was "just the accessories"), but their potential business as well. Shame on me for being honest. I'm sure if I said I hadn't purchased my dress from them YET, or wasted everyone's time and disguised an accessories appt as a bridal try-on appt, I could have purchased my belt and veil. Oh well- got my dress, received excellent service where I purchased it from, and I will find my perfect accessories as well.

Hi Brianna, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback and your kind words about our selection of gowns and customer service. Wedding gown alterations as an industry standard begins around $1000 and depends on the complexity. In our stores this fee includes multiple fittings until the perfect fit is achieved. See through thread only comes in one color and has a white appearance on mesh close up but is necessary to maintain the integrity of the gown. It is impossible to have invisible thread on mesh. We wish you the best, lots of love from all of us at EBR!

Great store, good customer service, quality selection of dresses but I would NOT recommend getting alterations done here. First, it cost over $1,000, which is understandable for complex alterations but a high price. I would expect quality service at that rate. The dress had about 5 sets of alterations in total (which is a lot of time in any persons schedule). After the first alteration the dress still needed a lot of work. For the second alteration, I think they forgot to implement the main changes as the straps were still too big and the dress too long. Then came the third alteration, which was pretty sloppy. A white thread was used on a nude see-through area of the straps and an inch-long hem was visible on the shoulder! It looked terrible. Then I asked them to fix that but when I came in they had only semi fixed one side. I say semi because it did not look professional. On the other shoulder, it looked like they had started but forgot to finish or fix it. It still had the white thread and the piping on the side was not sewed back on and was coming off. Thank god I insisted on inspecting the dress before I left because they had it prepared for me to take away. The store should have someone doing meaningful quality control. In sum, good dress selection but VERY sub -par alterations.
