neat plant cultivars and good selection for a small plant store. staff didn't seem to appreciate our patronage - reluctant to help and rushed us through our purchase.
Im not typically one to post reviews but I want to share my experience to inform other shoppers. First, the plants. I bought a maranta and a Calathea rattlesnake at Gingko Gardens about a month ago. When I took them home I noticed small brown spots with yellow edges on the rattlesnake. I didnt think much of it, but now theyve spread all over the plant. I learned today that the spots are a fungal disease. I trimmed off the most heavily affected leaves but its probably too little too late. As for the maranta, I noticed that the leaves were drying up despite high humidity and consistent watering. I took the plant out of the pot to inspect the roots and thats when I saw that the plant had virtually no roots. It was just a bunch of stems that someone stuck in the soil. I was sold plants that didnt have a real chance of surviving. Pretty shady if you ask me. Now lets talk about the shopping experience. When I was at the store, I asked an associate for his recommendations for a north facing window. He repeatedly told me that North facing windows get the most light, which is just wrong. He insisted even after I told him that I live in an apartment with north facing windows ONLY and there is NO direct light. Not only is this common knowledge but he was rude about it and gave ME attitude for his own mistake. Overall it was a disappointing experience. I rated this 2 stars instead of 1 because the plants are pretty cheap but if it means bringing home dying plants its not worth it.
Reasonable prices based on my past experience buying plants in New York City. Staff was really friendly and knowledgeable and gave me good plant recommendations. They have a good and varied selection as well
This review is hard to write because the staff was incredibly friendly and really helpful throughout my visit. However, I find this plant shop to be quite overrated. I cannot speak for the outdoor plants but the indoor / houseplant selection was quite limited and included almost no rare/tropical plants. Most if not all the pots in the store were dirty and/or had spider webs not to mention the colony of mosquitoes living on their wall of cash pots / plastic nursery pots.
