Had someone come down to their program for receiving a dog and the program knew all pertinent information, 3 days in they removed the person from the program because there were too many animals on the property. There are multiple households on the property and the animals belong to the other houses and all of the animals were counted against the person. When the dog was taken from the person, he was told to pack and then was locked out of the building. Dog when it was first given to the person did not know how to sit or heel. Dog was on an ill-fit prong collar. If you are placing a dog from a program, there is no reason the dog should be on a prong or even not know how to sit. The person was asked to sign contracts, which he did, and then was not allowed to have copies of the contracts signed.
Hello Shirlandria. We're sorry you feel we hide behind a status. In fact, 100% of the population we serve is post-9/11 veterans. All aspects of our program are tailored to the best interest of both our service dogs and our veterans. We wish you and your family the best and thank you for your support of veterans suffering from PTSD, TBI & MST.

This program is supposed to be here to help veterans but I see that it just like any program that hides behind the "VETERAN" status. When you have a Veteran in a program who is showing drastic improvements and is connecting to a service animal. You decide that because you feel like you have the power to do what you feel is right snatch them out of the program. PTSD/MST is now a one size fits all VETERANS!!!. Please learn and understand this. I am truly disappointed that after everything you all explained in the in processing is being met, you did the opposite. Truly disappointed in the outcome of this program.
First; you have to fill out a few hours worth of application documents, and they want contact information from your employer (a big no no). Then..they send you a bunch more hoops to jump through. They won't take your VA PTSD determination; they need you to fill out new forms from your doctor AND your mental health provider. On top of that; you have to go to their in-patient facility for 21 days (3 weeks) worth of training. I didn't even get that much time off for having kids, and i don't know anyone who is employed who can expect to take off for 3 weeks for a DOG and expect to have a job when they come back. So this program doesn't work well for working veterans, which is most of us. They will not give you a dog unless you go spend three weeks there; its non-negotiable. Don't even BOTHER, you are better off going out and buying your own dog and training it yourself. Enjoy the tax exempt status and thanks for nothing, from an Iraq vet, US Army Infantry.
