Our family (2 parents, and kids ages 10 and 12) participated in Discover Corps in the Dominican Republic in late March 2016. Our experience was simply wonderful. We loved everything about this trip: the beautiful setting, the projects we worked on, and getting to know the other people on the trip. Members of the staff were very knowledgeable, kind and fun. They were eager to teach us about the Dominican Republic and its history. The opportunity for our family to work alongside others on meaningful projects in a Dominican village was priceless. Our accommodations were comfortable and the food was delicious. In short, we HIGHLY recommend Discover Corps.

We travelled to Cuba with Discover Corps in late January on the Preserving Natures Wonders trip and the 3-day add on to Trinidad and Cienfuegos. Our guide was terrific and so well versed in the culture, history, and politics of the country. We really enjoyed meeting the families at the Casas Particulares. The Casas have separate rooms apart from the families so have no concerns about privacy. Cuba feels really safe, the safest I have felt in a long time as a tourist. Coming and going between the US and Cuba was a breeze. Its such a fascinating country - where you can see the benefits of free medical and education for everyone. People seem to have enough, but not a lot. Few are begging and people seem adequately clothed and fed. On the other hand, making a living is difficult. For an enhanced experience, be prepared to be unplugged. Internet and WiFi is scanty. Just let it go and enjoy an off the grid experience. Take time to enjoy music and dancing in the evenings, waking up to the early morning countryside stirrings, and mojitos! We had no problems eating local fruits and salads. Practical tips: bring TP with you and carry small coins to use the facilities. Practice Spanish before you go to really enjoy your encounters with the Cuban people. They are very welcoming and happy to engage with you. Useful gifts: thumb drives, guitar strings or other musical needs, hygiene products. Bon Voyage!

My husband and I just returned from an Australian 10 day Beachside Wildlife Adventure...it was awesome!! We don't normally travel with tours, so we weren't sure how much we would enjoy this one. But, the volunteer mornings at the David Fleay Wildlife Park enticed us to give this trip a try. At the park, we had a wonderful ranger Ella who gave us many experiences - from weighing a koala, to gathering and preparing meals for dingoes, kangaroos, a platypus and cassowary, as well as some pen cleaning and vine planting for butterfly habitat. Visiting beautiful beaches and rainforests was an additional incentive for our afternoons. Our tour started with meeting our guides Manny and Sharon at the airport and then a get-acquainted dinner - what a fun couple! They were committed to giving us all a great experience in their special Gold Coast of Australia, taking us to spots that the normal tourists don't get to see, plus interesting local ethnic restaurants. They changed the agenda slightly on occasion to better fit our tastes, the weather, schedule whatever would make the days more enjoyable. The week ended with a relaxing visit to Stradbroke Island where we swam, spotted koalas, sea turtles and dolphins, kayaked, and played a rousing game of barefoot lawn bowling. This trip had a varied, educational and interesting itinerary and a great set of hosts!!
