Hi J Y! As discussed during your appointment, renewing a contact lens prescription requires an evaluation that is completely separate from your routine glasses and ocular health examination. As contact lenses are medical devices, we must evaluate the vision, comfort, and fit to ensure that your contacts are the best ones to suit your needs. The fee for a contact lens evaluation is difficult to determine prior to an appointment, as it is largely dependent on the complexity of the evaluation and the type of lenses required. We will always ask first if a patient desires a contact lens prescription during the appointment. It will always be an additional charge, and in many cases dictated by the patients insurance benefits. We do also require Optomap retinal imaging for every patient. We practice modernized healthcare and firmly believe that retinal imaging is the best way to monitor and track ocular health over time. We do our best to avoid this fee coming as a surprise to our patients. It is written in bold in every email received immediately after making an appointment, and also has its own consent form that all patients must initial when submitting registration paperwork. We request this paperwork be completed prior to any appointment so everyone is firmly aware of our practice policies before entering the office. We hope you had a good experience overall but we understand that our policies may not be the right fit for every patient. All the best, Dr. Vo

Be aware that they don't tell you your responsibility during the exam. I got surprised with a $60 bill for a contact lens evaluation which I didn't need and I was told that I should have read my benefits before coming. Also, retinal screening is mandatory and you cannot opt-out. Just watch out!
Hi Joanna! Im very happy to hear you had a wonderful initial visit at our office. As you know, our examinations involve the latest technology to determine the best vision, comfort, and overall health of the eyes. Pupillary distance (PD), or the distance between the eyes, is not a measurement taken by the doctor during the examination to determine the power for your prescription. The PD is a measurement taken by the optician who makes your glasses. Although online glasses companies request this information, they do not usually explain the purpose of the PD or that it is not really useful on its own. There is an optical center in every lens in which your vision is the sharpest and has the least distortion. The pupillary distance helps determine where the optical center lies horizontally, but for accurate and sharp vision there is also a vertical component. This vertical measurement depends on the frame that you choose and must be measured with the frame on your face. When companies do not have the capability to take this measurement, they typically just choose to align the optical center right in the middle of the glasses. This is not typically where a patients eyes are located so many find themselves tilting their chin upward to see well. This difference is more obvious for prescriptions with higher power and is especially complicated for progressive or multifocal lenses. The PD is an impractical measurement on its own and we can't be held responsible for how another entity makes glasses with our prescription and/or measurements. We provide every patient with a copy of their prescription immediately following their examination. We believe online glasses serve a purpose and are a great choice for some patients. However, it is important to note that they are less expensive because they do not pay for a brick and mortar location or employ people of the community to provide high quality products and exceptional service. Cheers! Dr. Vo

Overall, I would not recommend Look + See Vision Care. I had a wonderful first visit with them where the doctor evaluated my prescription. I ended up purchasing contacts through them. However, the prescription they provide does not include pupillary distance, a measurement needed to order glasses online. According to my online research, most eye doctors will provide this as part of the prescription. Look + See does not and will only provide this information if you order glasses through them (which are often $700+). Essentially because they want to make money off of you by forcing you to buy their glasses they won't provide essential information for you to purchase on your own. Even though I spent $300 with them, I now need to pay another eye doctor to measure this distance so I can order the glasses I want online. I feel scammed they they refused to take a simple, quick measurement and now can't purchase eye glasses.
Best eye doctors in Austin! My experience with Dr. Vo was very pleasurable. She took her time to answer all of my questions and explained everything in an easy to understand way. I definitely trust her & her team with all of my eye care needs
Hey M! Thanks for your feedback. It truly is important for a doctor and patient to have effective communication to achieve the best visual outcomes. This is particularly important when dealing with astigmatism and multifocal contact lenses. I'm sorry that it seems like we were not successful here. Our latest correspondence from you stated that your lenses were working great. Had we known otherwise, we would have loved to work with you to troubleshoot any and all issues until you were satisfied. We are very happy that you have been able to move forward and hope you are seeing well at all distances. Thanks for giving us a chance and we wish you the best! Respectfully, Dr. Vo + Dr. Bailey

I visited Look + See late last year. First impressions were positive. Nice space, friendly receptionist. Did the standard eye screenings and scans. Great. I then waited in reception for Dr Travis. I like my frames so I inquired the cost of putting in new lenses. I was pretty sure I needed an updated prescription. They looked at the frames and told me around $800. Thats right, $800 to change the lenses. But, if I bought a new pair of frames the total including lenses would be just $450. Right. So out waltzes Dr Travis. We head back for the standard read the last line exam and then the endless shuffling of lenses to discover I do indeed need a new prescription. I also wear multi focal contact lenses. I was having seeing up close with my old lenses. Well, the newly suggested lenses were worse. Try these ones instead he insisted. Take them home. Give them a week. Then I was ushered out to reception, and off waltzed Dr Travis. Bye. You shouldnt be surprise to hear those lenses were possibly worse.I did a quick google search on the lenses and brand and BOOM!!! These lenses are not for people with astigmatism. Ive had astigmatism for 20 years. Dr Travis hadnt caught that. Top job. So off I went to another optician, taking my newly Dr Travis recommended lenses with me, and within minutes of my exam, are you aware you have astigmatism? Well, yes I am. Well those lenses will not work if you have astigmatism. Really? Shock. I now have a new glasses and lens prescription. Oh, and I did replace the lenses in my old frames. $350. $800. Hilarious.
