Beware the Goldsmiths con. I visited on the 26th August to enquire about getting the battery replaced on my Maurice Lacroix watch and was advised at this point it was 80 with a 40 deposit. Expensive for a battery but I grudgingly accepted. Fast forward a few weeks and I got a call from one of the staff members to advise that the watch required a service and mandatory repair work to be carried out, which would come at a cost of 370. I asked exactly what was wrong with the watch and asked the advisor to clarify if the watch would still work having just had the battery replaced, neither of these queries could be answered and I was told she would get back to me. What followed was a number of calls both with the original advisor and then following on from that the manager of the branch. The components on the watch that apparently needed replaced were detailed not that they made a lot of sense to myself. During these calls I stated on multiple occasions that I did not want the service or any components changed, I asked that the original agreement to have the battery replaced was honoured and the watch be returned to me. I was informed that this would fail the quality check of the service company that Goldsmiths use and thus wasnt possible. I also found that I was offered conflicting information on whether the watch would work having simply had the battery replaced, initially being told that it would not and then a change of stance to say that at a branch level they were unsure if this was the case or not. Eventually we reached the point where the manager offered to refund my deposit and the watch would be returned without any work being done. I feel this was offered purely due to persistence from myself. Throughout the entire process I felt extremely pressured to accept the service charge, obviously with concern for my watch. The communication was initially very lacking of detail and I struggled to understand industry terminology. At no point prior to paying the deposit was I advised that there was a possibility of the watch needing a mandatory service and with that the original agreement of the battery being changed not available without paying an additional 290. I note that I went to a local shop and got my watch battery changed for 5, the watch now works with full functionality. I accept that he is not an expert but having had a brief look over the watch, I was advised he could not see any components that would need replacing. In summary I feel that Goldsmiths attempted to con me out of a substantial amount of money for work which obviously was not required.

Went in today to look at necklaces and to ask if I could have or buy a replacement jewellery box for a necklace I was gifted that was bought there, but that the box I had I lost. Unfortunately the silver chains are not long enough so the necklaces felt like I was being strangled (not anyone's fault of course) and I needed a few more inches so they hung properly. Don't think I'll buy from there in the future as the man helping spent more time faffing about measuring all of the necklaces (I only liked 1 of them) instead of asking about the box, so I was made to stand and wait. The man helping me finally asked the manager about the box and I was then told that I could not buy, or have, a replacement box - no explanation either. Not a great experience unfortunately.
Just been here with my boyfriend to buy a watch for his birthday. An excellent customer service!!! Janie and Chris have been amazing, I wish to be spoilt like that in every place I go. Not very helpful when I was looking for gold jewellery most of the stuff they had was silver or white gold.
