Hello! We are so sorry to hear you did not have the best experience here at Childsplay Academy. As a non-profit, our staff work so hard to provide for our students and it breaks our heart when we can't meet every person's expectations. We wanted to address each of your points to make sure you and the rest of our patrons have the best information. "Classrooms are cold and dusty. 52 degrees" We have janitorial staff that thoroughly cleans our rooms multiple times each week and we are so thankful for them. Recent remodeling caused some dust but fortunately didn’t hinder classroom fun. In the winter, classes are sometimes a little chilly at drop off as the room heats up and the kids get moving. The rooms generally sit at 65 degrees at the start of class and warm up within the hour to a comfortable 70 degrees. "They kick parents out of the room, even first day. If you're going to do this, you need to meet with parents and go over your background check procedures." You can learn about our staff and student safety requirements on our website, and we are always very open (and proud!) about our requirement that all staff undergo a background check and receive Finger Print Clearance cards. Although we do have closed classes, as children have a much easier time engaging in the artistic process and focus when they are with their peers and professional theatre artists, we always allow caregivers/parents to hang out during check in and even the first 5-10 minutes of class before asking them to depart. Additionally, we allow caregivers to remain on Campus in one of our indoor waiting areas close by the classrooms, and they are welcome to come check in on students as often as they see fit. We have background checks for all of our staff, but not all of the parents so this is also to ensure the safety and well-being of all students. This day we also sent you a text during our morning break and invited you to come check in but did not receive a response. "No parent wants to drop a small child off with a stranger in an abandoned building" We’re sorry you didn’t care for the appearance of our 60-year-old repurposed and refurbished former elementary school. Tearing down and rebuilding new isn’t always the best option. On this particular day we had more than 150 kiddos on campus during this class time plus 14 staff members. This particular class had two staff members present as well. "Cancelation policy also awful. No partial refunds unless you cancel 30 days before." Industry standard for arts classes (especially for a non-profit) do not provide refunds whatsoever. We are proud of our cancellation policy as it protects the wages of our staff members (who still show up to teach) and the students who arrive ready to be creative and have fun. We always offer a future class tuition when a family needs to cancel for any reason. We also understand that life happens and have made plenty of exceptions when asked. We have not received a message from you requesting a refund, but we'd be happy to chat with you more about it. Again, we truly are so sorry you did not enjoy the two class meetings your kiddo attended. We had such a blast in class and the other kiddos were sad to lose a classmate and asked about them each week.
