My son is currently signed up for weekly music therapy and I would like to remove him. I was given an email address to cancel his future visits but it was non existent . We have heard wonderful things about macphail music therapy helping kids with ASD Communicate through music , and when I signed our son up that's exactly what we were looking for. Someone to sing songs with him so that he could learn colors, the alphabet, body parts etc. our first visit I was already disappointed but I thought I'd give it another shot. The disappointment came from the teacher having a very strong accent that was hard for me to understand let alone my child who needs to learn how to communicate. Also, on the second visit she asked what my goals were. Which are "for my son to be happy and learn how to communicate some more through music " . After describing our needs several times , the teacher only seemed interested in teaching our son what piano keys to press to play a song (keys had different colors) . Our son needs to learn his colors and how to complete a functional sentence before we want to even consider piano lessons. She also tried to teach him guitar chords and bell notes. I see how this would be a good program for children who are looking to learn to play musical instruments but that is it. I disagree wholeheartedly that this program is considered therapeutic or could ever help with children who have special needs, I feel upset knowing that I owe this business over $100 dollars because of how wrongly music therapy was advertised. ( The visits are $60 for one thirty minute session each week). The first visit , consisted of the teacher looking up songs on YouTube (which were bizarre Disney cover songs that I had never heard and trust me I can sing every word to frozen lion king and moana songs ) to add to a playlist that was never used, and letting us go about 10 minutes early because my son was upset . $60 for twenty minutes of the teacher looking at a screen and my son crying to leave.
