Okay beer.. they have a pretty amazing grounds but the bartenders act as if you are constantly trying to steal from them. It came a downpour while my husband and I were there with our 2 dogs (no dogs allowed inside the pole barn of a place that it is, unlike every other brewery in town) and I ran under a rope to get something out of the back of my outback to dry my dogs off and one of the bartenders told me that was a no entrance or exit and reprimanded me like a 5 year old.. Im 40z.. and she locked the door behind me with a snarky comment. Heaven forbid they allow me to run out a side door quickly to my car to grab something. We left no tip and wont be back. If you are looking for polite southern hospitality, go somewhere else. Lots of other breweries to frequent over this place.
Keith Our policy is in place for very good reason. We are lucky to live in a community with so many wonderful breweries. Yes, some of them are great venues to bring kids. While our property may seem like the ideal location for just this, we have daily experience spanning nearly 4 years now. Unfortunately, young ones were historically often left completely unsupervised. We found children in many extremely unsafe situations, including down on the riverbank, out on the train tracks, and everything in between. So, instead of risk a potential tragedy, we made the difficult decision to make our brewery 21+ every day except Sundays. Sundays are Family Day where all ages are welcome. Weve addressed this several times, publicly, across several different platforms and forums. Its been posted time and time again on both Instagram and Facebook, its front and center on our websites landing page, its on our voicemail, our Yelp page, and if all of that isnt enough, 2 signs that hang right on our gate as you drive into our parking lot. For folks who still bring children, our Staff has no choice but to have a candid and respectful conversation with them. In your case, our Staff said you were welcome to hang and finish your beer at your leisure. Our hope is that guests are understanding people who treat our Staff with respect in return. Sadly, your 2 encounters with our Staff proved otherwise.

No Kids Welcome! Not a fun family brewery. Only brewery in Asheville I've ever been asked to leave because I have my son with me. Sad.
Thank you Micah! We're lucky to have such a great group of people here at Zillicoah. Hope to have you back soon!

First off, amazing staff. It's so great to be able to talk to someone knowledgeable about what they're selling. And speaking of the beer... wow. Zillicoah excels in perfecting classic styles, and man do they perfect them. If you want to know how good a Pilsener can be, go here and forever ruin your opinion of American yellow rice-water substitutes of good German beer. The atmosphere is great as well. It's off the beaten path, but there's nothing like settling into a chair just by the French Broad and watching the river flow while enjoying the best interpretation of some classic styles. The line at the bar gets a bit long sometimes, but I can't knock a place like this for being too successful. I really hope I see that Z logo in a grocery store close to home soon.
Josh, so long as COVID is trending in the wrong direction and State mandates and restrictions are in place, we are 21+. These rules are in the name of safety. Please view our website for our current rules. They are, and have been, listed out first thing on our Home Page, as well as in several places on our social media outlets. We appreciate your understanding. Thank you. UPDATE (2/11/21): To address your updated concern, we have in the past let folks come in while an adult waits in the car with children, but unfortunately, many times they ended up getting out of the car which created an issue for Staff and the majority of our customers who are following the rules. A blanket policy proved to be necessary during COVID times. Again, these rules are in place with safety in mind. Thanks.

No crumb snatchers, sad. Couldnt even leave them in the car with the wife while I went in for 1 beer. Response didnt really address me leaving the kids in the car with my wife, but ok. Update (11/23/21) Friend brought a crowler of the Dunkel down to Charleston, the only way I can get their beer . Its outstanding, only wish Id be able to visit with my kids before I move out to Utah in a few days. Hopefully Zillicoah will still be open and Im alive in 15 yrs when my youngest will be out of the house.
