CTR (Click-Through Rate)

Tomasz Niewczas Published: 24/10/2025, 12:00 AM | Edited: 06/02/2026, 12:50 PM

What is Click-Through Rate (CTR)?

Click-Through Rate (CTR) is the percentage of users who click on a link, listing, or ad compared to how many times it was shown. In simple terms - if more people click on a result they saw, the CTR increases.

In the context of local SEO, CTR plays a key role, as it is one of the behavioral signals analyzed by Google algorithms. A higher CTR often indicates that a result is more relevant and appealing - potentially boosting its ranking in local search.

CTR formula:

CTR (%) = (Number of Clicks / Number of Impressions) × 100

For example: if your Google Business Profile was shown 1,000 times and received 120 clicks, your CTR would be:

(120 / 1000) × 100 = 12%

What should you know about CTR?

CTR is more than just a number - it’s a performance indicator that you can improve through smart optimization. Key factors affecting CTR in local SEO include:

  • headline and description in your Google Business Profile - clear, engaging, and locally relevant copy performs better,

  • review rating and volume - listings with more positive reviews get significantly more clicks,

  • position in Google Maps and Local Pack - top 3 positions have much higher CTR,

  • profile images and updates - fresh and appealing visuals attract more attention,

  • call-to-action keywords - like "Call now", "Book online", or "See menu" can boost CTR significantly.

The importance of CTR in local SEO

CTR is one of the most valuable indicators of how well your local presence performs on Google. It shows not just if your business appears - but whether people choose to engage with it. For local businesses, this is a real metric of visibility and intent.

In local SEO, CTR:

  • helps evaluate the effectiveness of your Google Business Profile,

  • influences your local ranking through user engagement signals,

  • increases conversion potential through better visibility,

  • offers insight for optimizing copy, visuals, and calls to action.

Examples of CTR optimization

  • A hair salon in Wroclaw updates its cover photo with a high-quality image of the interior - click rate goes up by 20%.

  • A restaurant adds call-to-action "Book your table" to its profile name and sees a 15% increase in CTR.

  • An auto repair shop updates business hours and service descriptions - more clicks and more phone calls follow.
