First of all, the tour is expensive. But considering a jar of tomato sauce goes for $8 at the DISCOUNT grocery store, you need to put it in perspective. It's a half day tour with various spots to take pictures and shop. Louise was our guide, and Scott was our driver. Both of them were outgoing, enthusiastic, and overall amazing. They went above and beyond to give us an incredible experience. Plus, they are natives and therefore the history they're telling you is THEIR actual history. This always puts a tour on another level for me--to actually hear from the people whose culture you're learning about instead of some person who just read it in a book. You'll hit every historical landmark in town and hear the stories of whaling and both the far history and recent history of this unique town. Being millennials, my friend and I always take a million pictures. Our guides lovingly rolled their eyes at us but let us take as much time as we needed. And if you want to take a polar plunge, you can do so on this tour! You'll get a certificate and patch for doing so. My friend and I had done our plunge with another company, but Louise still printed out a certificate for us so we had something to show for it. When I mentioned I was a foodie and blogger, Louise went out of her way to give us a taste of some local cuisine--something you absolutely cannot buy in town, as many native dishes are illegal to sell. She called up relatives of hers to bring us fry bread to snack on and even pieces of whale to try! Louise and Scott truly went above and beyond. I suggest this tour to anyone who wants an in-depth introduction to Barrow!
