Steve Lane gives a very grandfatherly impression, which makes him an effective con-artist. if you look at their massive collection of good reviews, notice that most of the users have only one review on their account. a few others have a few posts written in close proximity and then the accounts are abandoned. they must have a paralegal spend a few hours a week seeding their google account with fakes. their billing is unethical in multiple ways - they bill for things that never happened, they bill more than the agreed upon rate, they are disorganized and inefficient. they frequently fail to respond to emails but then bill you $100 for time spent on that email. they misplace paperwork and spend more billable hours re-doing it. they tell you they put things in your MSA when they never did. what's worse, Steve Lane has a temper, and a bad one. He will yell at the opposing counsel during negotiations, he's yelled at me - his client, and the office girls tell me he yells at them for making minor mistakes (which is probably why they went through about 6 different secretaries while i was working with them). Do yourself a favor if working with them - make a log of things you asked them to do and verify something is in your draft agreement when they say it is. say "Steve Lane, i want you to show me where you put that in our agreement" second, review every invoice diligently. if you spend 5 hours in court, make sure they don't bill you for 8. third - every time they send you something, they will print it and send a pdf that can't be edited, so they can bill you for the data entry. specify up front that they must share editable versions of your draft agreement.
My experience with Dan Lane and how he handled my case was an extremely positive one. Besides excellent legal advice and execution he was very understanding, responsive, fair, honest, and strived to keep me grounded during an extremely emotional time. I was also impressed on how he utilized his resources. Instead of negotiating with every written correspondence, he simply sent brief emails saving cost whenever possible. I appreciate that he never left my side or passed me off to an associate. I put my trust in Dan and he fought for me until the end.
My husband and I used Dan as our real estate lawyer as a buyer and he was the best! Great follow up! He stayed on top of everything. Dan always communicated with us if he needed something from us or for any input we had in responding to the seller's lawyer. He was also very knowledgeable - most of the time I have no idea what was going on, but he was always patient enough to explain it to me. Also had the pleasure of meeting Steve - he put everyone in an easy mood when the title company was late to the closing. Would definitely use them again!
I had a disappointing experience when retaining this firm for the simple service of sending a single one page letter, which took six weeks for them to accomplish. When the balance of my retainer was finally returned after months of delay, they sent it to my ex-husband.
