Great views, but deteriorating facility. When we arrived to find the office closed and no way to enter our condo (the access code had never been sent to us) I knew that everything wasn't going to be great here. But I never expected things to be so bad that I would wind up in urgent care with a puncture wound that might require stitches. (Spoiler alert: I did.) I'm sure the Maui Kai was one a first rate place. But those days are long gone. Access to the beach/water is boarded up with old pieces of plywood. Of the three units we rented, only one had a balcony. One had been modified to include the balcony in the room, another had the balcony enclosed in glass that had only a small window that opened. The rooms were small studios, some better decorated than others - but none updated since the 1980's. The one unit that still had a balcony had seriously corroded sliding glass doors that were too difficult for most of our group to open or close. Worse, the handles were corroded to the point the the edges were quite sharp. In fact, sharp enough to slice my hand open and send me to urgent care. The doctor there said I should probably have it stitched up, but that I might be able to simply keep it tightly bandaged for the following week. Opting not to spend any more of my vacation in waiting for medical care than necessary I chose no stitches. Perhaps my scar would have been smaller with sutures - who knows? Of course I contacted the management about the (now) obviously dangerous door handles, but in spite of repeated emails back and forth they have declined to take ANY action to make them safer. 15 minutes with a file would probably do the trick. They did say that they had lubricated the offending glass door so that it would be easier to open. Nice! But I pity the next person who slices their hand open. I sincerely hope it's not a child. Anyway, the pool is small, with a view of the parking lot. The beds are not the best: Murphy beds that fold up into the wall (the rooms are small). I should say on the management's behalf, that they did offer to pay the medical bill for my injury. However losing the day at the urgent care (starting with seeing my hand covered in blood and a red gaping wound between my thumb and forefinger) and not being able to snorkel or swim for five days of vacation, didn't make the offer seem too great. if you stay here, watch out. Bring some duct tape to protect your fingers. Great views, great location, but not worth the risk.

Our unit was a spacious one bedroom with a sleeper sofa in the living room and on the lanai. Modern kitchen with top grade appliances. Literally overlooks the ocean. Walk to the right out the back of the condos and there's a nice beach right there.
