Dear Christine, We are sorry that you planned to visit our shops during our lunchtime closure. Since we have been able to re-open during the pandemic we have closed for an hour during 1pm 2pm to allow our staff to maintain the high level of cleanliness we have been expected to maintain as part of the Government Guidance for Retailers, allow for staff shortages due to isolations, team building, staff training and to allow our staff team a respite from wearing facemasks all day. This small adaptation has meant we have remained open almost everyday we have been allowed to trade since March 2020 which as a small business has been pivotal to our survival and the livelihoods of the staff we employ. We understand your frustration and apologise for the inconvenience, however, we have tried our very best to advertise our lunchtime closures across our business on our website, on Google and on our social media platforms to keep our customers informed. Kind regards Cathy Casey and all of the Joe Brown Team Director

After a hike with friends in Snowdonia we stopped at Joe Brown's with the intention of buying new walking boots. It was just after 1pm and the shop was closed until 2pm!! There appeared to be at least three staff members in the shop and one came to the door saying they'd shut for lunch and muttering something about having to clean the shop because of Covid!! They wouldn't allow us in! Who in these times closes an hour for lunch on a Sunday when it's limited opening times. They obviously didn't want our custom. Definitely won't be back or recommending to anyone. They don't deserve customers
We are extremely sorry that you felt the need to leave a negative review about our shop. Please rest assured that it is never our intention to make customers feel uncomfortable. Since we have re-opened after lockdown we continue to work extremely hard to balance our role as retailers providing knowledge and expertise on specialist products with the strict Government Guidelines that allow us to continue trading during the current pandemic. As explained on the boards outside, we are only allowed a maximum of 6 customers in our Llanberis shop at any one time. In addition, we are supposed to encourage customers to socially distance, shop alone, discourage browsing and the touching of goods. Our staff team are constantly reviewing our day to day running of the shop so that we can remain open to service our customers needs. Having talked with them at length, I understand the shop was full to capacity during your visit and while they were serving you with harnesses they were also serving other customers in the shop while having to ask others to wait outside until the shop was no longer at maximum capacity. All this while also ensuring customers have sanitised their hands, any tried on goods are identified and placed in quarantine and all while wearing facemasks the entire day. Welsh government law states that we are all responsible for stopping the spread of Coronavirus and we desperately need our customers help and understanding to do this. I know things are really difficult at the moment with the virus. I understand shops have rules they have to follow to keep in line with government law. But we felt very uncomfortable in joe browns in llanberis, and when asking to try on some harnesses it seemed like to much of a task and they couldn't be bothered. They were not helpful at all, and were more interested in telling people to leave the shop if they were not buying anything. Really sad as I have been into the joe browns in Betws-y-Coed lot's of times and they are always super helpful. We took our custom elsewhere.
