I swore I'd never go back to Go Fish after trying them in West Reading years back because its fusion style sushi not authentic/traditional but decided to try the new location after 8 years & hearing from friends that it was better than before. Big disappointment again mainly from the lack of service & taste. I had a party of 3 around 8pm and the restaurant had maybe 5 or 6 tables occupied between indoor/outdoor so not busy at all. Vibe & restaurant is beautiful for sure & the wait staff is extremely kind from what my party could hear. Upon receiving our 7-8 different rolls we had to wait about 15 minutes to eat waiting for the waitress to come back out for us to ask for soy sauce as there was none on the table, no biggie. I had ordered an appetizer special before we placed our roll orders & assumed it just took a while for them to prepare but after another 10 minutes the waitress came back out & I asked about the appetizers which she had no clue about because the prior waiter forgot to tell her when they swapped tables earlier & upon checking to see if they had more left they just ran out of the appetizer specials I ordered first (now annoyed). The 1 spicy crab roll was very rich in flavor & definitely different from the traditional way its made & the rolls were beautifully presented. But I'm not sure if it was because it was the end of the day & just left over older tuna, the other 2 rolls of mine with spicy tuna was so pasty like thick butter (not minced) and had an extremely fishy taste to them all that it overpowered any other flavors of different sauces & fish in the rolls which my friends agreed with on theirs. The soy sauce they provided seems to be the extremely high sodium type that it couldn't be enjoyed even with the wasabi or ginger on small dabs. Fast forward after all that, I had asked for the check for our table and after getting my credit card run & paying I realized she never provided me with a receipt so we waited & it took over 20 minutes again for someone to pop out the back door that I had to ask the other worker if he can grab our waitress because we'd like to leave & I just wanted a copy. She finally came out with the receipt & stated I didn't realize you needed one. I personally don't know of any restaurant establishments that don't give two copies when presenting the bill (one for merchant/one for customer) or at least ask but besides that it would still be nice to be checked on for refills if patrons decided to stay a little longer after settling a bill. Our stay probably was about 45min too long due to the lack of checking up on us & with the terrible fishy tuna quality it definitely put a bad taste in my mind again. Prices are definitely higher than most Japanese sushi houses & even the more premium ones but that's okay if the quality of seafood is great as well as service but I highly question this place because of the bad experience. I'm personally shocked to see how many reviews say this is hands down the best sushi they've ever had as this is no where near traditional-authentic made sushi. I feel many haven't tried actual authentic places that aren't so fusion/Americanized. I could see many reviews are from friends & know the owners & staff so that makes an impact on the reviews but definitely doesn't give an honest view from an outside perspective. Reading some of the not so good ones, every one of them had similar issues with the wait times, pricing & lack of good service on not so busy days & busy days.
We always enjoy our meal here. And tonight was no different the food was amazing. However , immediately after paying our close to 500 dollar bill, the bartender asked us to leave, stating someone was waiting for our table we had made a reservation as it was my husbands birthday I found this to be in poor taste I was still finishing my drink and felt rushed to leavewe were a party of four and felt insulted the food is good, but we will hesitate to return after this experience
We went there last Friday night and the food is very fresh and very good. The atmosphere is very nice and comfortable. The service was was not timed very well and everyone seemed like it was their first day. We thought we would give it another go around . We went last night at about 1800hr. We sat at the bar and the place was about 1/8 occupied. The bartender Mark was friendly and greeted us immediately. We are married for over 40 years and have dined all over the country and many parts in the world from dive bars to Michelin 2 star restaurants. Here is what I didn't like. " I would like a dirty martini and do you have blue cheese stuffed olives"? "no but we have goat cheese stuffed olives" I say that is even better. I am sitting at the bar watching the bartender stick his bare hands in an olive jar and stuffing each olive with his bare fingers with goat cheese. I do not want to mention the "C " word, but notwithstanding a dissipating pandemic, one just does not do that. that prep work should be done way ahead of customers being served. Second issue. They had no olive juice so they were crushing olives which is innovated but doesn't meet muster. Third problem. Where we sat at the corner of the bar they were doing the dishes cleaning glasses right in front of us while we ate and drank. That is not acceptable , don't put chairs there. Fourth. The sushi roll was wrong times two and both came out after my wife was finished eating. Her salad game out after dinner. This place has the potential to be a big hit. It seemed as though there was no management present, and it was everyones fist day. Mark the bartender was very apoligetic and attempted to make restitution. The drinks were anemic and should never be a measured poor . If I were a mystery muncher writing a review, it would of been scathing. I am not, as I want them to succeed. My final and most disturbing observation, is the very large rainbow banner hanging from the ceiling. A political statement is not needed at a restaurant, as I did not see an American flag being displayed. I really could care less which sexual orientation the owner supports, as they could be banging goats in the kitchen. I just want good food, good service, and healthy sanitation practices. You can do better, and we need this following a very bad year and half.
