We are truly sorry that there was a misunderstanding regarding the clients baseboards, and we have extensively worked to remedy this issue, but could not come to an agreed upon resolution. It is detailed in writing in our contract the options regarding baseboards and states that painting would be necessary if they chose to remove and replace their baseboards. The signed contract with the client states: Re-use existing base: Existing base will be removed and re-installed after flooring is installed. Customer acknowledges not all base can be removed and replaced intact, depending on quality, age and installation of original base or trim. If customer has chosen to re-use base as a cost saving measure, he/she accepts that the base may not be able to be removed intact. Replacement material cost will be the homeowner responsibility. Exact match base may not be possible. This choice will require re-painting or touch up. See paint exclusions. The client was aware of this and notified us that she had hired a painter to complete touch-ups after install. The option to do new baseboard was in writing immediately above the re-use base option on two places on the contract. After the install, we hoped to resolve her dissatisfaction of the baseboards by offering to replace the baseboards with a taller option at our cost (no profit), and to cover the area that would have required painting due to the baseboards that had been removed and reinstalled. This option was disregarded by the client, since she wanted the work to be for no cost, even though the issue at hand was not the fault of our company and had been outlined as a possibility in her signed contract: Floor height differences: Customer acknowledges that product specific changes in floor height have been discussed and that not all height difference issues may be apparent until time of install. New flooring may not have the same height as the original flooring being replaced. SF is not responsible for gaps along baseboards, height changes along transition areas to other existing flooring types, including transitions to existing carpet or hard surfaces, or change in height of doors or casings after installation is completed. This situation was also further complicated because this customer did all the flooring choices and communication for this project from a remote out of state location and was never on the job site until well after the work was completed. Since she was not able to walk the home with anyone during the estimating process or prior to the installation, it is much harder to understand the logistics of the installation process. With any construction or remodeling project there are many variables. To expect that every possibility can be thoroughly explained, is not reasonable, especially when the project is being planned remotely. Understanding that verbal communication can be forgotten or misunderstood, we continue to outline all possible issues in our contract to reduce misunderstandings. When the customer declined our offer to replace the baseboards at our cost, we went ahead and issued her a goodwill credit for $400 for the inconvenience and to help her pay for the additional painting even though we were under no obligation to do so. The customers difficulty in matching the paint in her new home is a factor completely out of our control and something we cannot possibly be responsible for.

I do not recommend working with this company. One thing was communicated at the sale and I ended up with a lot of additional work and expense after their job was "complete." I was asked if I wanted to purchase new baseboards or re-use mine. I asked to re-use in an effort to save money. The salesperson agreed that was a good choice and nothing else was said. Then the work was done and they had removed the baseboards and lowered them leaving a paint stripe around our home. I was never told that this would happen, and has never been mentioned as an option or happened to me when doing this work with other companies in the past. Rather than take responsibility for not communicating with me, they have continued to gaslight me and lie about it claiming it was discussed. I would clearly not have chosen an option requiring me to re-paint my home if it had been explained- I would have chosen to get taller baseboards which would have ultimately been cheaper. The best part is that the company was offering to 'help' without taking responsibility, but the 'help' would have made them more money. So I had already paid them to remove and reinstall the baseboard and then I could have paid them more to remove the baseboards again and reinstall bigger ones to cover the paint stripe. They were going to 'discount' that work though, and I still would have had to hire painters... Do yourself a favor and choose another company to work with.
