The following outlines my experience at Royal Jewelers in Andover. I am very unsatisfied with my experience and will NEVER return. I did not go to Royal Jewelers to purchase jewelry but to have my wedding rings cleaned for free. Lets just say $350 later, 4 weeks without my rings, and I am very, very unhappy. I went to Royal Jewelers simply because it was the closest jewelry store to my house and I needed my wedding rings cleaned. I walked into Royal Jewelers and the man I spoke to about cleaning my ring started to poke the small side diamonds of my ring with a tool and told me that a couple of the small diamonds were loose. He explained that if I go ahead with the cleaning, it could cause them to become more loose and eventually fall out, so he talked me into getting a quote to see how much it would cost to tighten the channels of the ring to secure the side diamonds. I left my ring at the store and it took a full week to get the quote - $350. I talked to my insurance agent about the risks of not going ahead and having to file a claim later on and decided to go ahead with the service. It took 2 weeks until the ring was ready for pick up. I picked up my ring and started wearing it again. I couldnt really tell what was done, except that it looked clean and new. Then, after a day or so I noticed that the ring was CUTTING my skin. Some of the metal of where the jeweler worked was up-turned and rough and literally cutting into my skin of my finger. So, I brought the ring back to the store and spoke to a different man. When I explained what was happening, the salesman was adamant that the jeweler would not have touched the area of the ring that was supposedly cutting me and told me that it must have been like that before I brought it in. WHAT? Ive been wearing my ring for 2 years and now suddenly, after service at this jeweler, it is cutting into my skin. Obviously, whatever the jeweler did caused it. The salesman brought the ring around back to see if the jeweler could smooth it out while I was there. 10 minutes later he returned my ring and absolutely nothing had changed. I left the store extremely upset and returned the next day with my husband. We spoke to the salesman who originally convinced me to get the service done. He felt how the ring was rough and had me leave it for the week for the jeweler to smooth out the roughness. It takes another week for the jeweler to smooth out my ring. Not sure if they send the jewelry out or if the jeweler is only part-time, but not sure why it took at least a week each time to perform service or get a quote. I return a week later to pick up my ring and the salesman explains to me how they smoothed down the beads on my ring. Now, I had beads installed on the inside of my ring when I first got it to prevent it from spinning. The beads had no part in what was cutting my skin, I showed the salesman where it was cutting me and you could literally see the burr of metal on the very edge of the inside channel. I had been wearing my rings with the beads for 2 years and no problems. The ring does not appear to be cutting me anymore, but now that the beads were smoothed out, my ring is, of course, spinning again. Although on their website, the salesman are supposedly not commission-based, every time I walked into the store I got a feeling like they were. I will never return to this store and am very unsatisfied with my experience from start to finish. I went in for a routine free cleaning and came out $350 later, 4 weeks without my ring, and now my ring spins on my finger.
