Hello Stephanie, thank you so much for your concern. We are assuming that you are not aware that we are a non-profit 501(c)3 animal sanctuary. With that being said the animals who live @ Horsepower for kids come to us injured, sick, homeless, neglected. We offer them a safe, forever home. Our volunteers do a great job with loving and caring for all the animals. We hope you visit again with a different take on why it's important for us to have visitors, not only because our animals love visitors but because it helps fundraise for their food and care.

Great place to go and ride horses and take pictures with your family. I took 2 stars because the animals look very depressed and some of them were either sick or injured(missing eyes,or limping) it was a bit alarming..

Dear Lauren, you mentioned children? We are assuming you are referring to your daughter (1 person)? The other volunteer is a young man who we undertsand is your daughter's friend. Both your daughter and her friend signed up to volunteer and did not show up, therefore per our policy we removed them from our volunteer list. Our volunteer reported that you called Horsepower for kids accusing her of racism & discrimination; our volunteer "Estela" is Cuban, born in Cuba and very proud of her heritage, she also went to the extent of contacting the young man's mother and speaking fluent Spanish with her. The young man's mother had a different approach about her son not being responsible with his commitment which allowed for him to get a second opportunity and continues to volunteer with us.

Unprofessional and Racist staff!!! My children did 10 hours volunteer and were treated extremely poor. Signed up for 4 days during business days and were advised on sunday that they had to be 18 in order to volunteer during the week after being called racial names, so they did not go and were called by Estella b/c their mothers did not answer, and explained their reason and were called liars and told not to come back! I called to inform of the miscommunication as was talked over and down too by Estella, who stated that unless i had names of whom called my kids racial slurs it was he said/she said. However, she proceeded to remove my kids off the volunteer list due to a miscommunication that shouldve been addessed and handled by the parents. After my children being called "pepito and Juanito" b/c they are hispanic and then being told not to return to volunteer I will make sure everyone knows what kind of organization you are running. This definitley could have been handled in a more professional and respectful way on Horsepower end. Remember, when dealing with minors, they have parents who will defend them and voice their concerns. I will also be notifying hillsborough county school board. DO BETTER AND HEAR PEOPLE OUT WHEN DEALING WITH CHILDREN!

Great experience!! Lovely people the vibe of the place over is very calm. I was not expecting to see that many animals. Go with close shoes please, trust me my kids love it. Recommend!

It was ok for kids imagination. Kids can't interact with animals for petting purpose, NEED A FOOD TRAILER , BURGER, FRIES HOT DOGS, ITALIAN SAUSAGE..CUBAN SANDWICHES.,ECT. THEY CAN RENT A SPACE TO A VENDOR. RENT BASED ON ATTENDANCE.

Unfortunately, Florida offers unpredictable weather and when there is thunder and lightning present we must close for the safety of our staff, volunteers and precious animals. I hope you understand and you visit us again.

Went today and since it is a 1hr drive for me to get there, I called beforehand to make sure they were open. No one answered the phone but their voicemail said they would be open on the weekends until 5pm so we drove 1 hr to get there and they were closed because of the rain. It's was very disappointing and frustrating especially because it's a 2hr round-trip drive that we made specifically to go see this place. It is very easy to update your voicemail if you can't answer the phone and let people know if something changes and you are closed for the day so we don't waste time and gas to drive there just to find out that the place is closed. I did not get to see any of the animals so I can't comment on that part. Edit to Owner's reply: I completely understand that living in Florida you must sometimes close due to weather. However, it would be nice if you would make an update to your voicemail or Google page for the days that you unexpectedly close so people don't drive over there and waste their time and gas. Especially when some people drive an hour or more to get there and the current voicemail says that you are open for the day. Thank You.
