Hi Chelsea, We want to address each of your concerns: Residing in a charming, yet dated NYC office often means unpredictable circumstances. We are lucky to have the warm, small nook of ours where we can showcase our unique pieces, consult about new projects, and most importantly make our visiting clients feel at home. We are a custom design studio, making every one of our pieces upon request. Because we are not a mass producing shop, we have a smaller collection in house for viewing than a traditional retailer. During an in-person or virtual design consultation, our clients have the opportunity to consider several types of settings and combine their preferences for their forever piece. If the design of interest is not available for viewing, pieces that incorporate similar design elements are showcased - which is ultimately how custom designs are brought to life! Fortunately, Ken & Dana Design will be relocating in Fall 2022 to a more reliable NYC location - one with a doorman, high-quality air conditioning, spacious seating, and elegant showcasing with intent to provide our clientele a refreshing and accommodating NYC experience they all so deserve. Thirdly, as per previous reviews, Ariel is "helpful"..."responsive"..."wonderful"..."patient"... and "friendly." She has been a critical member of our small team for 8+ years and works loyally to design countless dream rings for our clients. Her efforts do not go unnoticed as she sent a follow-up email within 24 hours of your design consultation. In your response email to Ariel, you expressed thanks for the session and that the recap made the "decision-making much easier." We wish you had expressed prior to this review with us that your experience fell short - our goal at Ken & Dana Design is to offer a personal yet professional experience for our clients during this exciting time. Furthermore, while laboratory grown diamonds are an ever-growing, eco-friendly trend today, we do not encourage our clients to favor laboratory diamonds over mined diamonds. In fact, we work with all types of gemstones in our designs. Diamond preferences are unique to everyone - we gather our best advice and recommendations for how to consider each of the diamond 4Cs and find the right balance between them to reveal your perfect diamond. We truly aim to help you find a stone that meets your desired criteria. Lastly, we are a small family-run business in a competitive industry. Our prices not only reflect our product quality, but also our quality of service. We stand proudly behind our work and believe we have valued our products and services accordingly. Ultimately, we are happy to hear you found a less competitive option that meets your expectations. We thank you for your feedback - we will work to improve your areas of concern. Regards, The KDD Team

Consultants were late to appointment. The one girl who was on time did not have a key and was by far the friendliest and tried to be most accommodating (unfortunately I forget her name). Elevator was broken and my friend (with serious medical conditions) and I were never notified. Climbed several flights of stairs in 90+ degree staircase, only to be given two warm bottles of water by consultant (Ariel). Waited in un-air conditioned Ken and Dana unit until they turned on the air, which due to the air being off over night, made little to no improvement. Consultant was rude, short, completely disinterested, and overall unhelpful. All information needed to schedule appointment was made online: rings of interest, size, and etc but she had none of the information AND had one ring that was NOT of interest to try on. Ariel also kept pushing lab grown diamonds EVEN after expressing there was no interest. Highly recommend going elsewhere, prices are DOUBLE of what you can get elsewhere with your preferred cut, higher clarity, better color, and larger carat. Was able to find a consultant and jeweler who was able to not only find all of these things, but for HALF the price. Other jeweler also made it a memorable experience and listened to what we were looking for in an engagement ring, unlike Ken and Dana Consultant (Ariel Alexandria).
Hi Victoria, We take our client's concerns seriously, therefore as soon as we received your communication, we launched a full investigation and here are the facts that we found (we believe these will clarify any misunderstanding that you may have): 1) You and your husband visited our studio in person on 9/17/2019 and met with Ariel, and she promptly sent you a follow up email to recap your session on 9/19/2019. 2) On December 11th, 2019, your husband reached out to Ariel to inquire about next steps and turnaround time, and additionally that he would like to provide his own diamond and to purchase only the setting from us. 3) On December 12th, 2019, Ariel responds to say that we do not sell unfinished rings (ie. mounting only without a center stone), therefore we would need your diamond in order to get started, and additionally there would be a setting fee for providing your own diamond. 4) On December 13th, your husband was informed that the turnaround time is approximately 5-6 weeks + 2 additional weeks for the upcoming holiday because our studio would be closed. 5) On January 9th, 2020, your husband placed an order with a deposit but expressed concern about leaving the diamond with us for 5-6 weeks. While it is always ideal to have your diamond available (so that we can create your ring around your stone), we agreed to complete as much of your ring as possible using the measurements from your diamond certificate, then finishing your ring within a few days once he drops off the diamond. 6) On February 27th, 2020 (7 weeks after your husband submitted his deposit), Ariel emails your husband to inform him that we were ready for him to drop off his diamond. Also to further alleviate his concern, that he would be able to loupe the inscription on his diamond when he picks up the finished ring which would prove the authenticity of the diamond that we return back to him. 7) On March 2nd, 2020, your husband drops off his diamond which is set into a temporary setting. 8) On March 3rd, at 6:19pm, we emailed your husband to inform him that his ring was ready for pick up. 9) On March 4th, 2020, you and your husband picked up your engagement ring, reviewed the inscription of the diamond, and confirmed that everything looked good and that the diamond inscription matches up to the number of your stone. As you can see from the above order log, we did not drop the ball on your order as you have claimed; we finished your ring exactly one week after the initial estimated completion time, largely due to the complexity of the ring that you ordered (the Anani ring to accommodate an emerald cut center stone, with bark texture throughout is not a simple ring to create). We would be happy to provide you with the above order history, which is well documented in numerous email exchanges with your husband. Your second accusation is the most troubling because you have falsely accused us of setting moissanite accents into your ring, which is a completely fabricated lie. You could never find prove of this claim, and besides, any jeweler would tell you that the notion of using moissanite accents over diamond to save on cost is preposterous. There are 4 accent diamonds in your ring, and had we used moissanites instead of diamond, we would have saved a grand total of $7.40 assuming that none of them break during setting (would any jeweler do this and risk tarnishing their reputation?). Because moissanites are soften than diamonds, they often break during setting, which means we have to use more of them. In the end, moissanites often cost more to set than diamonds. Not only are they inferior to diamond, they also cost more, which is why we never recommend them for accent use. Should you have further concerns, we welcome a call or email from you any time. Sincerely, Ken & Dana Design

My husband got my engagement ring here a few months before the pandemic. He ordered it in December and wanted to propose in February. He communicated with the salesperson so clearly and she said put down a deposit and we can start the process. He put down the deposit and nothing was started. He called back in February asking when it would be finished since they quoted 6 weeks and they asked him if he wanted them to start the ring well that was the point of the deposit wasnt it? The salesperson was horrible. We had to get the owner involved and he just kept saying my bad this is our fault. They wound up rushing it and my husband got the ring two weeks after he wanted to propose. He had to get the diamond he bought set into a different setting while we waited for the ring to be done. The other issue we had with the ring is he requested and paid for diamonds in the setting and got moissanite. I worked in jewelry for years before switching careers and cannot believe the level of unprofessionalism. We requested diamonds and got moissanite. Buyer beware beautiful settings the jewelers and designs are great but beyond that the customer service, and communication was horrible!
It was our pleasure, Hillary! We're so happy to hear that to two of you love your rings. Congrats to you both and we look forward to seeing you again in our showroom soon!

I cannot say enough good things about Ken & Dana Designs. Ariel was so responsive and helpful in helping my husband and I plan visit(s) during the height of the pandemic to design my engagement ring. We explored multiple options and were even able to hand pick the diamond as they had a few options in house! We were so pleased with the service and quality that we both decided to get our wedding bands with K&D D. I honestly think my husband (a non-jewelry guy) had more fun trying out different bands than I did! We will forever be loyal K & D D fans and I am secretly planning the next addition to my gorgeous stack .
I let my reviews speak for themselves. They are nothing but glowing. But after reading yours I have to chime in because its simply not true. Your scheduled appointment time was at 1:00pm today. You arrived at 12:30pm. At that time, you were greeted with warm smiles and cold refreshments. We led you to a pretty and comfortable waiting area where we explained that although you were early - because we had other appointments in session - you would have to wait for your scheduled appointment time of 1:00pm. We are a small team and its the reason for the required appointments. We all meet with clients, answer phone calls, make rings, complete paperwork, and it takes time and needs to be scheduled. We like to keep things personal here and so keeping our clients to their scheduled appointment times is something we adhere to as much as possible. Of course had we had a free family member available for you at 12:30 we would have begun your appointment time earlier, but that just was not the case today when you arrived early. The appointment before yours ended at 1:00pm. At that time, you confronted Ariel the person who would be helping you - and asked why your appointment wasnt already in session. In response, she asked you to please wait one moment so that she could put away the ring just purchased by the clients from the 12:00pm appointment and not leave it at the table where you would be sitting. It would have taken her 10 seconds to return to you. However, rather than waiting 10 seconds for her return you decided to leave. When Ariel approached you before exiting in the elevator with a kind heart and welcoming words you began telling her you didnt want anyone wasting your time (we are talking about 10 seconds) and you simply turned your face and left. By 1:03pm you were walking down 8th avenue. There was nothing left for us to do. So Im responding to you because A.) my family here at Ken and Dana is loving, caring, efficient, hard-working, accepting and welcoming and far from arrogant and ignorant and B.) I truly have no idea why you would even use those words to describe the experience detailed above. We welcome you back of course, but do ask that you please keep your appointment time and not be upset if you show up early but have no one available to attend to your every need at that moment.

I would give zero if it is allowed. No one wants to help after the reservation time. Arrogant and ignorant! Avoid! EDIT: I read what the owner replied, and I can feel the arrogance even more! We waited in the area until it passed 1 pm, which was the appointment time. No one showed to say s/he needs couple minutes to prepare or anything. We had to walk all over the place to find someone working there. Yet, the person responded us with unconcerned tones and mentioned they need more time. The attitude makes us wonder that we were not welcomed and if it is about our skin color or dressing, but I don't have evidence though (I did dress up casually.) By the way, if you came to us first with that tone, I would not even have posted the review since I am too nice to people. You can continue enjoying your reviews since one negative review wouldn't cause a dramatic drop on overall. However, please notice all failed business started with seemingly minor drops. You don't have to welcome us back with the hypocritical tone. Anyway we won't go back. However, if one day you need to reflect your failing business and start to think about taking courses to learn proper manners, I may give you a discount on that!
