As owner of Highland Homes, I wanted to reach out and apologize for your frustrating experience. Communication is very important in our company and is something that we emphasize every day as key to providing exceptional customer experiences. It is, in fact, the very thing that so many of our positive reviews mention as to the positivity of their Highland Homes experience. I sincerely apologize that the communication did not come as clearly and quickly as it should have. While we would love to take every job that comes our way, it is important for us to know in advance that we have the ability to give each one of our homeowners and their homes the attention that they deserve. Unfortunately, after reviewing things carefully with our construction team, we made the determination that the near two hour roundtrip distance between your new home and our other current projects, would jeopardize the individual care and attention that we could provide to both yourself, and our current homeowners. Again, I apologize and take ownership personally, as we could have better informed you of the cause for our delay in getting back to you. We wish you nothing but the very best in the adventure of building your new home!

Unfortunately, our experience with Highland Homes does not reflect with reviews that are written here. We are returning to Boise after being gone for several years. We have already purchased a lot just above Lucky Peak. We were looking for a builder that built quality homes but also specialized in building while the homeowner was out of state. It appeared that Highland was a perfect fit. We went to Boise to met with a few builders and after seeing the homes that Highland build and explaining where our lot was and what we wanted to build, we were told that every that we wanted was doable by Nichelle (Sales Agent). Our initial meeting with Nichelle was on a Saturday morning. She said that she would like for us to meet with Mike (the owner of Highland Homes) but he was busy in the morning but would be free in the afternoon. We went to lunch and waited for Nichelle to call us and tell us when and where we would meet Mike. As the afternoon progressed and did not hear from her, we attempted to call her. After two calls and a text that did not get returned, Saturday came to a close and we did not meet Mike or ever here back from Nichelle. It was the weekend and things come up, totally understandable. After the weekend was over and our returned home, Nichelle reached out to us via email. She responded It was great getting to know you both and hearing your amazing home ideas. :) We would love the opportunity to build for you. I want to get a conference call scheduled for you to talk with Mike Dildine (owner/builder) and Kristin Pugh (Design/pricing) to talk about next steps. Can you give me a day/time that works best? We immediately began looking at Highlands existing floorplans and within 7 days we sent them back a mocked up floor plan in a software program. We expressed that we are anxious to get going on this quickly because we would like to get the plans completed and the house built. The response from Nishelle was Thank you so much for that information.... Very Helpful! :) We are excited to work with you and Kristin will jump right into plan design with you. I see you copied her on this email so I am sure she will respond quickly with an available day/time to connect with you. After nine days of hearing nothing from Kristin or Mike, we emailed again to see what the status was. The reply that we got from Kristin was I appreciate your following up and we appreciate, so much, the interest in our company! The delayed response falls entirely on me. We have been extremely interested in your project off Mores Creek - such a beautiful area - and its been the topic of conversation everyday within our company. Though it is a difficult decision, we ultimately have to decline at this point. We feel the distance from our current commitments prevent us from taking on a job so far out of the area this year. As we expand our company over the next few years were hopeful at the opportunity to serve clients outside of just the Treasure Valley. Again, thank you for considering us as a builder and we wish you the absolute best on your future project! So, it was nice of Kristen to use the Management Technique of the $hit $andwich. Here you have all three elements of the $hit $andwich: one the flattering or cheerful opening, two the actual news and three the optimistic conclusion. This has been a huge disappointment for us and waste of our time! We got slow/no responses, there was a lack of follow through (last thing you want to deal with when somebody is building your home), us doing our due diligence, our design time, wasted time on our trip to Boise, etc.
Leanna, thank you so much for the 5 star review and the kind words!! It was a pleasure working with you on your beautiful home!

This review is long overdue! We had begun the process of building our family home with a few different builders. We were taking into consideration the quality of craftsmanship, the finish work, the level and speed of communication, integrity, time/project speed and price. There are several builders in the Treasure Valley that can check off one or many of these boxes, but only one builder for us that could deliver on everything and that was Highland Homes! My husband and I were very frustrated and anxious at the point we decided to meet with Highland Homes. Nothing proposed by other builders was working to our expectations or in our budget. Michael Dildine and his wonderfully pleasant assistant, Nichele, were quick to meet with us the evening following my late call. Mike reviewed our ideas and plans to that point as well as the dilemmas we had, and immediately started working towards finding solutions for us. His humble nature and expertise were evident immediately. He showed us a couple of custom build plans that were exactly what we described, listened to our ideas to personalize and didn't say "no" to anything. He had a "can do" attitude and made us feel like he cared about our family, dreams and budget as much as we did! We modified an existing custom job and we were able to get everything we wanted on our list without being over budget or being told "no." The subcontractors were great but they allowed us to bring in our own, even though it was less convenient for them. Whenever an issue arose, as is inevitable with a build, I can say it was addressed immediately and to our satisfaction. As a type A personality and a health care provider who is used to diagnosing and treating problems head on, I had much anxiety in this process entrusting so much money and hope into a builder and his team. I am SO glad we chose THIS team and that this team put up with me, going beyond our expectations! Eric and Jared, who managed and coordinated the subcontractors and schedule always responded immediately and in a calming manner, handling business professionally. John came directly to the site several times correcting subcontractor issues as needed. He even came by daily after we moved in checking in with updates and checking in to see if everything was ok and being handled to our satisfaction. We got our dream home in the amount of time promised. I don't foresee a need to move or build again. We love our new home! But,...if we ever wanted to build again I would not go with anyone else but Highland Homes. I trust these individuals expertise and integrity and know there is nothing they can not or will not try to make happen. They treat every build as if it is there own and you just can't replace that! Highland Homes is the greatest! And believe me, we met with all of the prestigious custom and semi-custom builders in the valley, so we would know! Thank you Mike, Nichele, Eric, Jared, John and everyone at Highland Homes! You guys rock!!!
Jennifer!! We are so happy you took the time to write this review! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. We are truly honored that we were able to help build your dream home!

Actually, we don't have to do the rating. Everybody else who comes over to visit immediately gives our home "5 stars"! When we came to Highland Homes, we arrived with two things: a basic blueprint that we had found online, and the frustration built up from almost four years of lot preparation and three failed attempts to get a home designed and built by other architects and builders. We were at our wits' end! Luckily for us, after reviewing our situation, Mike agreed to help us. We liked his model Highland home and decided trust his commitment to make our dreams come true. Good decision on our part! Also good that none of us knew in advance just how difficult this particular build would be. It turned out to be an unusually rocky process that involved many challenges such as an unannounced lot annexation by Boise City (involving new and different codes to follow), a sudden and possibly illegal decision to slap our building site with a foothills designation, several changes of inspectors during different phases of the build, and the ongoing grief of getting overly busy subs to finish their jobs..On top of that, ours was truly a highly custom build that required extreme coordination between ourselves , Highland, the contractors we hired for specialized work, and Highland's subs. Mike agreed to let my husband and I purchase and deliver many of the interior furnishings (bathroom vanities, toilets, light fixtures, appliances, etc.) ourselves, and he worked with us to integrate many non-standard eco-friendly and energy saving upgrades into the design. Mike, Nick and Jared (in particular), always kept on top of things behind the scenes and treated us with grace and good humor despite the many, many challenges involved in making our home a reality. From the unusual amount of red tape the city threw at us to the numerous oddball problems that seemed to plague our build from the start, the Highland team stood committed to seeing the job through to the end and making sure that we were completely happy with the finished product. The final result was a home that couldn't possibly please us more. We thank our lucky stars every day that we live here. The road to the finish line , like our home itself, was quite out of the ordinary, but once all the screaming and crying and gnashing of teeth that seems to be part and parcel of every custom home build was done, the rest has been a true case of "happily ever after". We would trade our home for nothing. We love it so! We also have no doubt whatsoever that it will easily hold its value as time goes on. Maybe that's partly because we get compliments from passers by, and maybe because everybody knows our home as "that big, gorgeous place on XX Road". Thank you, thank you, Highland Homes! You outdid yourself and created a masterpiece easily distinguished from all others. We hope that this home will be the place where my husband and I grow old and enjoy the rest of our lives together :-)
Highland Homes has gone to great lengths to enhance the home-building experience for their customers. Building a home is a huge undertaking and has many variables. Mike Dildine has assembled a team of first-class professionals all dedicated to providing the customer with exactly what they want, within their desired time-frame & budget. They excel in their communication and use of technology to allow the homebuyer the ability to track progress every step of the way with no surprises. I highly recommend Highland Homes for anyone interested in building a new home.
