i had really high hopes and was incredibly disappointed. entire haircut plus a wash was incredibly rushed, done in 25 minutes altogether. my bangs were uneven, stylist texturizing scissored my hair very quickly and with what felt like reckless abandon and it came out looking like a horrible choppy mess. i was just starting to feel confident in having short hair and now im very self conscious again. everyone has bad days, i get it, but i wish the stylist had just told me to come back another time if they were in a rush to get somewhere or not feeling up to it, now im stuck with a whack haircut until it eventually grows out.

We do keep a very tight schedule and have a strict cancellation policy to protect the staff and our other guests time. When we run behind because a guest is running late it can have a domino effect on the rest of our day. I understand you are frustrated and apologize for the inconvenience this caused you. We try to be very open about our policies so that folks know what to expect. After years of people just no call / no showing appointments we had to implement a more strict policy to protect our staffs income and time. Sorry we werent the right fit for you and you had such a negative experience, thats never our goal.

I booked an appointment at 12:30 for a bang trim the same day at 2:30. I had never been to this place before. I walked in the door 5 minutes late (my meeting ran over) and they told me they could "no longer accommodate" my appointment and charged me 50%. What was I supposed to do? Cancel? They have a fee if you cancel within 24 hours. I booked my appointment 2 hours ago. Seems like they overbook their appointments on purpose. I hope their salon services are better than their business model. I won't be coming back to find out.

I recently moved to Richmond and so I needed to find a new stylist who I could trust. I've only been to Luminary once so far, but they left a great first impression. Laura was amazing and so helpful, she listened to what I wanted done and executed it perfectly. I don't think I could have been happier with my hair! Out of all the places in Richmond, I picked this salon because of the fair prices, but more importantly because I support their values of inclusiveness and genuinely catering to every customer that walks through the door. I scheduled my next appointment already and I can't wait to come back!
Hi Haley, We try to be flexible with the first missed appointment with no notice but because our staff are paid commission if someone doesnt show up to the appointment they booked that stylist is out the money for that time blocked off. As we discussed, you missed an appointment in February that we waived the cancellation fee for because we understand life gets in the way. We have to have strict policies to protect our teams livelihood and the salon. Our policy is clearly stated in all of our communication and on our website. We are sorry that you were inconvenienced by our policy. Our courtesy reminder emails are sent automatically through our software so we have no guarantees that the recipients receive them. They are solely a reminder. A confirmation email is also automatically generated when an appointment is made so there are several forms of communication that we hope make it to our guests regarding their appointments. We are sorry that wasnt the case for you. We wish you all the best in finding a new salon home.

I was scheduled for a follow up appointment in MAY from my appointment in Feb. I was never reminded of my appointment like they claim. They claim they sent the reminder on their end, but I never received. I was charged $127!!!! for not attending an appointment that I made in Feb and was not reminded of. My doctors office does a better job of reminding me of an appointment, and they would never charge such an extreme fee for a missed appointment. Luminary has definitely lost a consistent client as they were not understanding of the situation whatsoever. Horrible customer service. I do not recommend.
