So sorry this happened, Nick. I am the owner, and we'll make sure that all staff know that the price on the shelf is what should be charged, even if the price has been increased in our system. We appreciate your effort to shop local, and we apologize for this negative interaction.

I was hesitant to write this review, but after some thought, I decided that I needed to share what happened. I purchased a handful of items at the Greensboro location, and after looking over my receipt in the car, I noticed that I had been overcharged slightly for 3-gallon pots and a 5 kg brick of coconut coir. I went back inside and asked the cashier to refund me the difference between what I was charged and what was advertised. He refused, citing the fact that prices change in the system and that what's advertised in the store isn't actually what the item may cost. I though that was a bit absurd, and rather than arguing with him, I just decided to drop the issue and leave. It just wasn't worth my time and energy to fight over something that only amounted to a pre-tax difference of $2.75. I have shopped at Fifth Season Gardening in Greensboro and Carrboro for nearly a decade, and I have always had a good experience, but this particular interaction rubbed me the wrong way. I have intentionally gone out of my way to patron this business rather than large online retailers because I think that their prices are fair, the people are knowledgeable, and the store is located a convenient distance from my home. Unfortunately, I can't shop here anymore after what happened. It's flatly dishonest to refuse to honor the prices that are displayed on the shelves. I had a conversation with a friend only a few days before this happened, and we talked about being conscious of where we spend our money. I brought up the fact that I enjoy supporting locally owned businesses, specifically mentioning Fifth Season, because I like knowing that the money I spend there enriches my own community rather than going into the pocket of a large corporate entity that sucks economic productivity out of my hometown and away from the people I care about. Overall, I'm very disappointed. I was loyal to this shop for many years, and had this incident not happened, I would have been loyal for many years into the future. So long, and thanks for all the coir...
