Correct. We must charge to stay open. We receive no state, federal or county funding to do all we do at the sanctuary, including running our hospital, breeding birds for conservation, and keeping our grounds maintained and birds cared for.
Visited this space on a trip from Miami, Florida. The charge is by the carload and theres plenty of free parking on the grounds. There are lots of signs about do not, other than that, we enjoyed the grounds loaded with many types of birds. The animals seem content, very well cared for, and the property is clean. There are fun shows at additional charge and was worth the cost. Bryan, the manager was at hand and answered my family and I questions about the birds, staff and the free bird houses displayed near the gift shop. This is a great place to spend the day and a great place to bring the family.
The small entry fee helps fund everything that World Bird Sanctuary does for the birds, their habitats, the injured birds we rehabilitate, our education programs, and our national and international conservation programs. We are not a county or state facility and not associated with Lone Elk. As you saw, the smaller enclosures are being replaced with larger, professional built enclosures, which are absolutely not Eagle Scout projects. Our wildlife hospital is now closed to the public because it is more beneficial to the birds healing within. Visitors create undue stress.

The $6.00 entry fee was a detractant. It's a side place to visit when going to the Lone Elk Park (which is free). You walk down an asphalt path and view a dozen or so birds that cannot survive in the wild. It appears the majority of the enclosures were donated to the park through Eagle Scout projects. There is a small playground for kids and restrooms. They used to have a small vet center open to view the animals, it has since been closed to the public. All in all you can expect to be in and out in about 30 minutes.
