Hi Dale, My name is Leann, Im the retail shop manager. Wow, we really messed up on every level with your hire. And Im so sorry that our mess ups affected you so badly. We have a small but good quality hire section, and it did function very well most of the time this year. But it was really reliant on one or two people, which has its benefits, but your experience seems to have exposed all the flaws. It has been a challenging couple of years, and there are some reasons why your issue happened, but there really is not any excuse; our hire booking system, the maintenance of the communications regarding hire, plus the training for the staff who are not directly involved in hire was inadequate and it let you down badly. We have committed to upgrading and reviewing our whole hire booking and communication system, our equipment list, and our wider staff training regarding hire for next winter. Prior to making this review, Ive emailed Mont a week ago, emailed a different address several weeks ago and messaged on Instagram without reply. My experience with Mont has been incredibly dissapointing. I booked backcountry gear for pickup Sept 22nd including an alpine tent. I confirmed my order a couple of weeks before and checked we could pick up on the day. Another in my group had also booked gear and confirmed our orders the week before pickup. It wasnt until putting Mont into our GPS that we realised Google said they were shut. Thats when we clicked - the public holiday. We tried to call but they had switched their phones off. We tried to email and message on social media but no replies. There was no info on their social media pages or announcement. One of our group had actually stayed in Canberra the night before and he went to the store to see a paper sign with opening hours and not open public holidays. I understand that the public holiday was a one off, however, they clearly made the decision to shut and changed their Google hours but didnt notify people booking up backcountry and/or safety gear for hire. No one from Mont had contacted us to let us know they were closing for the public holiday or to reorganise gear pickup. I would have thought this was a one off human error, but unfortunately this lack of care seems to be a pattern as every time we had called previously to ask questions about gear, we were fobbed off with vague answers. Example, we asked what sleeping bags we were hiring so we could confirm comfort/max temperature, size and weight. We were told ahh not sure but youll be fine with these theyre really good. On top of that, no one has contacted anyone in our group (who were listed for gear pickup) to this day. I left it this long purposely to give them enough time to receive communication, realise their error and contact those affected. We were really hoping to support Mont by hiring gear we were looking to purchase. Unfortunately, theyve made it hard - even impossible - at every step of the way.

You did not use this offer, so we adamantly dispute your accusations that we do not look after industry professionals. You recently used your company Instagram profile to harass a Mont staff member with your complaints via their personal Instagram profile: This is unprofessional and unacceptable. Any issue regarding Mont product and service must be directed to Mont head office via official channels.

As an outdoor recreation business I have found Mont terrible to deal with. Some products they produce are great however the way they treat businesses and guides from the outdoor recreation industry is appalling. The teams of adults we recommend gear and equipment will change
