We had moisture in our crawlspace and 50 year old insulation in our attic. The ERS team identified the trouble spots, provided a list solutions and worked around our schedule to make our home more comfortable. Our average monthly electricity bill this year was $70! We have the nicest crawlspace in the neighborhood and an attic full of clean, fluffy insulation. They even built us a custom insulated storage platform in the attic. Above and beyond.

This review is written by a recently retired couple, Jim & Evelyn Sullivan. We were referred to ERS by a friend in the Green Construction community in the triangle area, whom we had previously met through a well-known local architect. Our project was to evaluate a late 90s home we had purchased, and to plan cost-effective actions to move this home much closer to true energy efficiency. In the course of this project we installed foam insulation under the roof deck, replaced the HVAC with a system half the size of the existing one, sealed and insulated the crawlspace, and performed several blower door tests (start, mid, and project end). Along the way we installed PV on the roof, water filtration to remove chloramines, and a HEPA air filter in the HVAC. ERS -- and especially Paul Swenson -- assisted us throughout this process, advising, evaluating options, ensuring that work was properly done by others, and verifying our progress toward improved energy efficiency. We are quite happy with the results of this collaboration, and appreciate greatly the friendly, thoughtful and professional contributions made by the entire ERS team. First off, I will say that I have been in the residential energy efficiency industry for over seven years and thus know what to look for in a home performance contractor. I can honestly say that Energy Reduction Specialists of NC is THE premier company in the Triad for assisting homeowners by increasing comfort, enhancing indoor air quality, and reducing utility bills. We just had the attic of our 1955 Lindley Park home insulated by Gary and Paul's fine crew, and we couldn't be more pleased with their work. The technicians were professional, tidy, polite, and efficient. Though I was personally able to seal some of our home's larger air leakage pathways in the attic over the past couple years, ERS brought their contractor workmanship to the table and revamped our floored storage space, sealing gaps beneath the platform and insulating this area to the same level as the rest of the attic. We probably won't see a change in our utility bill for another couple months (we are on Duke Energy's equal payment plan), but I am confident that they will be significantly lower. But more importantly, our house is comfortable for the first time! No more hot and cold zones, our air conditioner runs less, and the house is quieter (we've noticed a great reduction in "old house noises" since the insulation was blown). We are thrilled with the improvement in our comfort levels---thanks, ERS!
