A Very professionally run family business. Its lovely meeting children from different cultures and making them feel welcome as a host family. I have taken families in from cultural connection for many years and have always enjoyed being part of making their trip fun with lots of happy memories.
I have been a host family for Cultural Connections (CC) a family run business for a number of years. First when it was run by Jean, the owner, and for the last few years by her son, Jimmy. I have always found CC friendly, supportive and professional in their dealings, no matter how challenging situations can be, but their ultimate goal is always to ensure the students are safe, happy and settled. Any concerns or issues that may arise are always dealt with quickly, efficiently and effortlessly, and more importantly, to the satisfaction of everyone. As a service provider company I award Cultural Connections with a 5 Stars. They truly are good at what they do, dedicated to ensuring that they not only offer the best in the service but also putting 100% into building and developing relationships, I.e. host families, schools and teachers that ensures a positive experience for the students. For my own experience as a host family I have always been provided with well behaved students though I am certain there are some who will misbehave. This may be because they have come to England for a positive experience, to see how we live, to share our homes and lives for just a few days but are disappointed in their host family. CC tend to work fast to resolve this, many times I have been contacted to assist them. They always seem to have a plan B. As a host family, I see it as an opportunity for the students to experience the true nature of English hospitality. An opportunity for them to speak real English (also because I dont speak their language but for a few sentences that I have learned from them). I always encourage this. It is also an opportunity for me to learn about them, and their life in another country. I am quite firm but loving in my approach to students. To help them understand this I tell them I have only one house rule, that they see me as their English mother.... Some of them find this funny, but it works for me, if you know what I mean I keep an message book for students to write about their experience and many times I have read back over their comments. Its lovely to see that they had such a wonderful time here, many wish to return, and that is saying something. Overall, my experience as a host family has been amazing, and its all thanks to CC, I actually miss having students in my home.
We joined Cultural Connections in 2016, and although I was very dubious about having students staying with us, it all worked out ok. We have only ever had minor issues, which have been quickly resolved by the company. We realised very quickly that you have to put certain rules in place for the kids, and if there is any issue with the language barrier, Jimmy has been there to help us out. The best thing is, although some of the students are shy and only here for a couple of days, is that alot of them want to interact with you. We have had some great evenings with our students. The only advice I would give someone joining Cultural Connections is, always do pizza on the first nights stay, all kids from wherever love pizza, dont bother with gravy, they just dont get it, if you only have a bath, like us, get a shower attachment, and if you have any worries, always call your Cultural Connections contact.
It was an absolute pleasure working with Cultural Connections (CC). Having hosted before with other companies I found Jimmy and Jordans professionalism and their friendly approach second to none. Working with (CC) was so easy. When I first joined CC Jimmy really took time to ensure I was comfortable and put me at ease. I highly recommend and would definitely host for them again
Jimmy and the team at Cultural Connection are some of the nicest people out there, honestly! From the first time Jimmy came round to our place to check it was okay for hosting students, it was clear that he knew his business inside-out and was easily able to answer any questions we had. Hosting the students themselves was really easy, most only stay for 3 or 4 nights during the week so you still get the weekends to yourself. The kids are out in London on tours most of the time so all you need to do is provide breakfast in the morning and drop them off at the agreed meeting place with a packed lunch around 8am. Then they usually come back around 6-7pm and you pick them up, provide a standard dinner and then they tend to keep themselves entertained on their phones/tablets. Sometimes you get chatty groups which like to learn about life in England which is great and normally provides a good laugh for all concerned. The pay is quite good too. Would definitely recommend.
