Carolyn isn't just a Harlem native, she's a born and bred New Yorker. Informed, warm, friendly and engaging, she led us past the major sights up and down 125th street and environs, greeting friends and neighbors as we strolled. Her knowledge of Harlem is clear and her stories of the poets, singers, preachers and politicians who populate Harlem's history are trenchant, pointed, and in some cases are told from the perspective of a person with first hand experience. We all ate lunch together and were made to feel more like friends than clients. The highlight was getting into the home of a friend of hers who was converting a local brownstone into a bed and breakfast. A highly enjoyable tour with an even more enjoyable guide.

If you love music (and what human being doesn't) you won't want to miss out on the Harlem Jazz on Tuesday's at 11:30 in Randall Presbyterian Church. We heard Craig Harris and Tailgaters, a quartet with trombone and didgeridoo playing the music of Sun Ra. Wonderful acoustics, skilled musicians, lovely atmosphere and music that thrilled me to my core.
