Hi there Mandy, Please accept my sincere apologies for the misinformation that you have received and for the inconvenience caused. To clarify, for the delivery of machines and other larger items that we ship with DPD, we currently offer a standard free next working day service to UK addresses except highland and island addresses which usually take a day or two longer. In addition, we also offer free Saturday and Sunday options for orders with a value of 300.00 and over. For orders under 300.00, Saturday and Sunday options have a 10.00 surcharge. We can dispatch using a specific before 12 service if required but this would also be chargeable. For orders placed online, separate billing and delivery fields are available for work addresses, etc. All of these services are fully trackable and customers will receive a message from the carriers on the morning of the delivery stating the 1hr delivery window. We also offer the In Transit delivery options such as deliver to neighbour, collect from PickUp shop, leave safe, etc options on request. We can be contacted by phone 0800 622 6224, email

They use DPD delivery who only deliver weekday mornings. They wouldn't deliver to my neighbour or my workplace, I wasn't even able to pick up initially from the depot, at expense and time to myself, until I pointed out SMD wouldn't use them again. Nevertheless, SMD are at fault for choosing a company who can't delivery the goods as promised. I won't be purchasing from SMD again, I will drive to Sewing World in my nearest town.

I would like to address the points you make in turn- "Terrible company, dishonest to the core, they sent out the same faulty machine twice in hope I would not notice the fine scratches that I reported and they forgot about, clearly can be seen in exactly the same place, length etc etc, then to try and say it's ok for a brand new machine to have fine scratches and it must be the way they come out, Unfortunately, despite best efforts, we were unable to reassure you that the second machine you received was indeed a different machine to the first and had a different serial number. The fine scratches that you referred to are indeed marks made during the production process. We have in excess of 800 Janome MXL50 machines in stock and I`m happy to take any random five from stock and show you, via Whatsapp, Facetime, etc or a continual uncut video recording, the same marks and different serial numbers. Although you acknowledge in a similar review on Google My Business that the fine scratches can only be seen in a certain light ("looked like it had been taken apart with some very distinct scratches above speed button and other buttons which could be seen in certain light"), we will do our best to ensure that these marks are visible on camera. Alternatively, you are welcome to visit our showroom to inspect the machines personally. You cordially discussed the marks on the machine with my manager (before your replacement was shipped out) who confirmed that the replacement machine will have the same marks. What would we gain in sending out the same machine twice only for it to be rejected twice and so twice the return collection costs to my company? "they were rude and failed to rectify the problem." I sincerely apologise for any perceived rudeness from our side as this was certainly not our intention. In order to rectify the situation, you asked for a replacement machine which is what we shipped to you. I`m not sure what further action we could have taken except to collect the replacement machine and process an immediate refund, which is what we did. "Also the machine I later discovered from another source was a discontinued model and they are being sold as a new. I would personally keep away from this company if you want a brand new sewing machine." I can confirm that the model you purchased is not discontinued IE it is available for re-order. We have exclusive agreements with Janome UK regarding the import and supply of specific models which are not available through the UK dealer network (SMD500, SMD1000, SMD2000, SMD3000, SMD4000, 644D, 744D etc). We also purchase quantities of surplus promotional stock that Janome UK have used for various campaigns. We are fortunate in that we have the warehousing and distribution infrastructure in place to be able to do this. Please be advised that because a particular model is not available through the dealer network, does not mean that it is no longer manufactured or that it is damaged, used, repaired or inferior in any way. Different models are supplied through various sales channels by many sewing machine distributors in the UK. I hope this explanation has gone someway to reassure you of the integrity of SMD and my manager and that the dishonest business model and underhand tactics that you describe in your review are not employed at my company. ordered a brand new machine, arrived faulty and looked like it had been taken apart with some very distinct scratches above speed button and other buttons which could be seen in certain light also very irregular on some pattern stitches, not normal on a brand new machine, so I contacted company via email and they promised a phone back and i waited 2 days and still nothing, eventually made contact, i maintained my polite manor and they promised to collect, which they did, and to arrange to resend a replacement brand new machine, same model/ make sent out, but apparently according to company its normal to have a brand new machine with scratches, new machine arrived with the same stitch problems but slightly better and distinct scratches in exactly the same place? same length, same places is this the same machine? phoned again and he denied it being the same machine and said we accused him of being a lier! he lacked apology and he had a very abrupt manor, believe this company to be very dishonest and they send out faulty machines declaring them new, and i think the only reason i caught them out was they forgot to look at the fine scratches, one star given for receiving full refund otherwise my advice, one very dishonest company, stay away!
