I normally like Ace Hardware, but this particular one (Shattuck) has to be the most messy hardware store I've ever seen. It's also quite a bit more expensive than other places. Despite the store seemingly overflowing with junk, I could not find a very basic electrical part, namely a cable strain relief. After explaining to the employee what it was, since he had never heard of it, he was no help as to where these could be. Eventually I found one in an unopened box at the top of a shelf. Even Home Depot has 15 different models of it. It's a shame I have to drive to the HD in Watertown for the slightest project. I guess I'll try True Value next...
Bad bad cust svc .. Do not honor prices shown on website. Hangup on you. NOT nice people..now own Wanamakers in Arl Hgts..(too bad John and Mark Wanamaker originally owners 50yrs nicest best guys ) no more... Avoid ArlShattuck HW, Wanamakers now and Lex Ace HW... all 3 same bad owner store... plain Awful. Need 0 star. 1 star too high. Just go Lowes HomeDepot. Way better prices nicer.
I've gone to Shattucks for decades. They have an excellent selection of hardware and this paired with the polite and helpful staff make it a resource I have used often. However, I was disturbed at what I found there today. The aisles of this store are thin and there were many patrons standing in line. It was impossible to maintain 6 feet distance as people were moving back and forth to the back of the store using the same aisle that all the people who are waiting in line for the register were standing. I stood in the line masked and awaiting my turn at the register. When I got the register, I was informed by the clerk that the number I was told to write down on the identifying the bolts I was purchasing would not give her the price as I was told by another clerk. She directed me to return to the back of the store to seek the price back down through all the people waiting for the register and other people. I was not pleased. Once I reached the back of the store, I abandoned the bolts I had picked out and exited the store as I would not risk my health again standing though that line once again. This old building does not allow for safe distancing between people. I wont return to this store until a vaccine is available or the risk of infection has abated.
