Handed in my gaming PC for repair on August 14th. They never updated me, never called to tell me anything (called me 3 times over the course of the whole month and a half), and finally get my PC back over a month later on the 27th of September. It works fine in the shop, but when I take it back home and try to update my drivers it stops working. I spend 9 hours trying to fix it only to find out they replaced my graphics card WITH A FAKE. (edit: they say they didn't realise the card was a fake, but if that's true it's still really bad that "professionals" can't tell a very obviously fake card from a real one) Completely unacceptable. Don't trust this business with your devices. Edit: they replaced the motherboard and the processor on the machine and those are actually fine, but they've now threatened to take me to court over this review.
I came to this shop about a week ago with my Acer Aspire 6 which is about 5 months old and told them I tried to factory reset the laptop but it got stuck on 46% for hours and then had to switch it off. When I switched it backed on there was an error code and once you logged backed in you couldn't access anything. I told them you dont need to worry about recovering data just give it a restart to when I first had it and I am also going to be giving the laptop to my brother. The guy I initially talked too was pretty cool as I use to go school with him. The guy besides him told me I needed to buy windows 10 to restart the whole thing to get my laptop working again. I then tell him its already built into the system and I also have a licensed code for that as you can see it printed on the laptop. He then says okay and tells me to wait for another guy as I guess hes the one that fixes the laptops. The person he told me to speak too just wanted to overcharge me for what was a simple issue. The guy tried to charge me 45 to reset and then says it looks the the hard drive has been corrupted as well so will charge you an extra 50 on top. I then ask him how you can tell the hard drive has been comprised? He said it looks like you banged it against a table, which I then tell him that's not true as the laptop has not moved from its working area. He then persists with the same issue but then back tracks and says will reset the laptop and let you know if you have to pay extra for the hard drive if it has been corrupted. This is the first time I have stepped into this shop but you can clearly tell that they want to over price something that's not even hard to fix and then lie to the customer and add other problems with the laptop that never exist at all. I then tell them I am going to get a second opinion and left the shop. That's when I realised that I didn't trust them to fix the real issue with my laptop. I then went to a friend of mine of mine in Hanwell who charged me 30 to fix the laptop and also showed me what to do in case this was to happen again in the future. Took a few hours to reset but there was no hard drive damage as I suspected. Since I'm not the best tech savvy person my friend said they tried to take advantage of you. I will never step foot in that shop again.
Explained the issue, ordered some parts. Kind enough to offer a video walkthrough to install parts. The computer is now working in a temporary state but will eventually need a check up in person at the right time.
Took them a GPU in need of repair. Unfortunately they didn't even open it up to check the components as they would have seen the blown resistor under the heatsink. Was told it wasn't able to be repaired but offered a resolder on the GPU core chip Probably better suited to just mobile phone repairs and solving very basic computer problems. Staff friendly. No fix no fee so can't complain too much. Even though they didn't inspect my GPU properly.
