I'm another (former) member who had a pretty negative experience being told my lifting was "too loud," both by a member while I was literally in the middle of a workout, and then by the owner later in an email. To the owner's credit, he refunded my membership so I could try elsewhere. So yeah I get that deadlifting is loud in a small space. But also... it's a pretty standard exercise. And wow was it uncomfortable to be interrupted during a workout by another member extremely in my face telling me I'm doing something wrong. Be warned that although the gym has bumper plates (designed to be dropped) and an ohio deadlift bar: if you deadlift without fully controlling weight to the ground you *will* get yelled at. Apparently if you need to bail a benchpress or fail a lift in some other way you're also likely to get yelled at. Would recommend trying Olympic Athletic Club down the street if you have an interest in olympic style lifting, powerlifting, or just don't really enjoy confrontation while working out.
Our main gym occupies over 6500 square feet in a very large room. In that one large open space, we have our free weight area, functional fitness and large array of pin-based strength machines and about 50 cardio machines. These are all being used by a fair number of people at any given time. We do not expect people weight lifting to set weights down gently when they are deadlifting a challenging weight, but we do expect people to be considerate of others and not be excessive with slamming weights on a rack or dropping weights from a distance. Having to listen to excessive loud noises is simply unpleasant for most of the other gym participants. It would be great to have a separate, isolated area for weight lifting and not be concerned with members making a lot of noise and bothering other members - but we are just not setup that way at BHC. The staff at BHC would really prefer not to have interrupt a member during a workout and tell them to refrain from making too much noise, but we must keep the interests of the majority of our members in mind. We have lots of members making the most of our free weight area with state of the art equipment and 4 racks. These members have been able to work out fine without bothering the other members in the gym. We are very fortunate with having a great group of members at BHC that, for the most part, are considerate of others.

Was told my deadlifting was too loud and was asked to set my weights down gently. Not a gym for weightlifters.
amazing value and AWESOME classes. Love the free parking and lovely front desk staff. I almost didn't do this review because I want to keep it a secret.
Great gym, every staff person is a personal trainer. They just finished upgrading the locker / restrooms. Everything is clean and it is always easy to get on the machine you want.
Ballard Health Club is the best gym I have ever been a member at. The staff and members are so motivating, nice, and friendly. I joined knowing no one and quickly became friends with many of the members. There are so many class options to choose from and they are all great. Membership options are very reasonable and class times are great. I couldn't say enough positive things about this gym!
