Hi Maria I am really sorry to hear that it sounds like you couldnt complete your travels with us due to the COVID pandemic. To assist travelers who are in this position, we offer a full flexibility policy to all participants affected by COVID. This enables them to transfer at any time in the future to any program, start date and location. This transfer is offered with no transfer fee. Additionally, if a participant wants to transfer to an alternative location with the same program focus and duration, GVI will absorb the cost if the new program is at a higher price. As an organisation we have a commitment to our participants, staff and the communities we support across the globe - our decision with regard to refunds is based on taking all stakeholders into consideration. Should you wish to take advantage of our full flexibility policy and transfer at any time in the future to any program, start date and location that suits you, please dont hesitate to connect with your enrolment officer. If you would like to chat with someone further about your experience please reach out to [email protected]. Stole over 2000 from my bank account. Hide behind T&Cs during this Covid worldwide pandemic. Do not use them.

I had a terrible experience at the Jalova project in Costa Rica on a 2 week placement. There was at least half the time devoted to training for projects which we couldn't actually partake in surveys for because they didn't have staff, had already used up their 'survey allowance' or were oversubscribed with volunteers. In particular there were no surveys on canal boats and we could not join the Jaguar and Turtle walks. This was despite being told when signing up that there would be opportunity to partake in all types of research. In addition, the food was terrible (cooked by other volunteers who had relatively little practice, full of oil, and often mouldy given the non refrigerated storage conditions). Whether water or food, myself and other volunteers had stomach problems and were often hungry. Protein is lentils and beans, with cheese once a week only, and there is no meat or alcohol on base except one takeaway order of fried chicken once per week. Eggs are rationed to 3 per week per volunteer and were stolen/used by other volunteers. Rooms were stuffy, shared by 7 volunteers and had very poor mattresses, no pillows or windows and mosquito nets with holes. You cannot leave base alone apart from a small stretch of beach so it's physically very constrained. I raised my concerns throughout placement with staff on base, programme managers and with the feedback team but was not offered resolutions to the issues shared, so I hope this review makes others aware. The staff were passionate about conservation and the base staff were tired but doing their best. The data collected is reported to the conservation authorities 6 monthly but the other papers and studies are determined only by staff and intern time and inclination to write up and I wasn't able to get involved with supporting those.
We are so glad that you felt our GVI Family culture, Elizabeth. Thank you for this kind review. We hope to see you on base in the near future.

I had the most amazing experience in Thailand! The staff and others volunteers were so welcoming, it really felt like one big family. The day-to-day activities were so much fun and very rewarding.
Hey, thanks for your review! I'm thrilled to hear you had such a positive experience with us and enjoyed your time on base as much as you did. We'd love to have you back on base sometime soon!

My experience of a 2-month career internship on the Seychelles, Cap Ternay, was overall balanced, 6/10. Its a great programme on paper and many dive sites will let you experience great encounters with wildlife. The base management has also recently improved and everything is pretty well organised. However, the Seychelles base at Cape Ternay has a multitude of problems including high staff turnover, unreliable equipment (boat and compressor, diving gear is ok) and inability to manage effects of Covid-19. Also be aware that most participants are aged 18-23 and looking for a fun experience more than to create impact. If youre looking for many serious and knowledgeable conversations about sustainability and conversation, this is not the place for you. I have published a much more detailed review on goabroad.com and gooverseas.com.
