We originally purchased a deal with Modern Kitchen Home Solutions (MKHS) from Angies List. They pushed their custom cabinet line, but we insisted on standard kitchen cabinets. In their showroom, cabinet models on display and wood color samples provided were all mono-toned. After we selected the color and style of the cabinets, they determined a price of an additional $1861. We tried to later add some crown molding but they gave us an exorbitant estimate which we declined initially, before they later added it for no cost. MKHS estimated the project to start on August 24th, which was in our contract. They later informed us of a new project start date of September 24th, which was news to us. When the 24th came, they did not arrive in the morning as planned, and instead said they would have to come in the afternoon/evening because of their cabinet supplier opening late. The installers from MKHS showed up the next day late, unprepared, and without all the necessary cabinetry parts and granite. After the installers left, we inspected the unfinished cabinetry and discovered many issues to our dissatisfaction. These included two-toned wood variations throughout the top and bottom cabinets, the absence of soft closed hardware on the doors and drawers, unevenly spaced cabinet doors, the absence of a spice rack cabinet (as promised in the showroom and shown on the contract diagram), damage to one of the corners of a drawer, damage to the side cabinet wall from a protruding nail, and protruding bottom boards from the sides of the cabinets. We immediately emailed MKHS our concerns, including photos. Several days passed with no response before we received an email from MKHS which addressed some of our concerns, but not all. On October 1st, MKHS came to our home. They were both very apologetic and promised they would make things right to earn our trust back. This included sending wood door samples and keeping us informed of their inquiries to the cabinet manufacturer. Later, we received a follow-up email from MKHS admitting we were "completely right about the 2 tone" and that "they will get this situated and get you guys on the right track." Over the next few days, they dropped off three door samples, all of which were two-toned. We continued to communicate with them with poor to no response. At this point, we turned to Angies list and filed a complaint. We had to submit a negative review and give them a poor rating. From October 8th and on, communications from the contractor continued to be unhelpful. We replied back on October 30th stating the facts: that they have continued to provide no evidence of delivering monotone cabinets as promised, that we have lost faith in their promises, that issues they were having with their manufacturer were not of our responsibility, and that we still desired a full refund of our money, a removal of all their materials, and repair of any damage to our property from their installation. Their response three days later, on November 2nd, was mostly the same: you chose these cabinets, we are talking with the manufacturer every day, and that the funds received were already paid to the workers who started our project (but never finished it). It has taken us this long to write this full narrative for this negative review because there was so much to write about and we are very busy professionals. This negative review essentially speaks for itself. We strongly recommend that you beware of this contractor and take any necessary steps to avoid a situation similar to ours, which remains unresolved. We want to applaud Angies List for refunding our money. However, the two-toned cabinets and two-toned sample doors remain in our place with still no adequate response from this contractor. If you are able to look at the reviews on Angies List then we encourage you by typing in this contractors business name. However, we just tried to find this business on the Angies List website, and we could no longer find them listed.
