In mid-July 2025, Google completed its second core update of the year. The update began rolling out on June 30 and concluded over two weeks later, on July 17. Although described as a routine core update, the changes it introduced were far from insignificant for many website owners.

What was the purpose of this update?

The June 2025 core update continued Google’s ongoing effort to promote high-quality, relevant, and user-oriented content. As with previous core updates, the goal was not to penalize specific practices, but rather to fine-tune the ranking systems and better reward content that genuinely serves user intent.

According to official Google communication, this update was part of their regular improvements and did not require website owners to take any special action — as long as their content was already created with users in mind.

    Key observations post-rollout

Most noticeable changes in rankings began a few days after launch, around July 2. The peak of volatility, however, was observed between July 11 and July 14, with SEOs reporting intense fluctuations across various industries.

    Here's how it played out:

    • Several websites saw strong recoveries, especially those previously impacted by the September 2023 helpful content update.
    • Others experienced sharp drops in visibility.
    • Many remained largely unaffected.

Such mixed outcomes are typical of core updates, which are broad in scope and affect different types of content in different ways.

    If your site was affected...

A drop in rankings after a core update doesn’t necessarily indicate a problem with your site. Google has reiterated over the years that core updates are not penalties, but re-evaluations of content based on new relevance signals.

    What’s worth considering:

    • Does your content offer real value beyond keyword targeting?
    • Are your pages written by or with input from experts?
    • Is your site regularly updated and easy to navigate?

Google encourages creators to review their content through a people-first lens, not just from a technical SEO perspective.

Practical steps for the months ahead

    1. Revisit your core content
Ensure it answers real questions, covers topics in depth, and stays current.

    2. Strengthen trust signals
Showcase expertise, cite credible sources, and make sure authorship is transparent.

    3. Monitor performance — but don’t panic
Fluctuations are part of the process. True recovery or improvement may only be visible after future updates.

    4. Prioritize long-term value
Shortcuts may lead to temporary gains, but sustainable rankings come from consistent quality.

While the June 2025 core update is now behind us, its impact continues to unfold. For those affected, it serves as a reminder: genuine, user-focused content remains the most future-proof SEO strategy.

Google may update its algorithm again in the coming months. The best preparation? Keep building with integrity.
